Anti-gun and friend ? Not in my book. Stop talking to him. But given today's reality, I would stop talking to him and let the gaps between communication get larger and larger unless this so called friend has ANYTHING else that they do that makes them worthy of being an F word... (that is FRIEND, not the other F word!)

Steer the topic away from guns and into pure self defense.

Say something along the lines: "Forget about the guns. If you (or your mother or your sister) is about to get raped and they fight back while being attacked, should they get prosecuted for bruises or injuries to the attacker?"

NOTE that you are intentionally not asking whether they should fight back since it will open the door to "they won't be in a position like that, etc." Instead, you are talking about what happens *after* the fact.
