I had my wife's relative tell me the same exact thing. I replied with "what if they're trying to kill your family, not just you?" He had that "uhhhhhhhhhh" look. He didn't say a word after that and changed the subject.

Living my whole life in CA, ive made lots of friends consistent with CA demographics. That said, ive parted with more than half thru the years by gradually lessening communication. Its hard to look and talk to them when in the back of my mind, im thinking this guy/gal is a complete moron and sheep. I would say moat our liberal friends are simply not very smart and buys into the whole anti-gun sham.

canada too. o.p.'s friend may be a nice fellow but it is clear that he lives in a bubble, has never faced a mugger or carjacker yet. jolly for him, he just volunteered to be one of society's "designated victims."

Your friend sound like an F'ing moron. I have a very small friends list. I don't even bother talking with people who are anti: gun, US military or American. (<----Anti-American)

Your friend lives in fairytale land, where you can tell an armed criminal "you're not allowed to have that, please drop the gun and give me time to call 911". I was a boy living by the Rodney King riots near ktown. I saw my 70 year old neighbor get mugged and robbed and we called 911 for them to just tell us no police can come everyone is on their own. That was their exact words. For those living in fairytale land that no crime will happen to them and if one does they just call 911 and a police will magically be there within seconds.... when something actually happens to them is when their eyes open.

As the old saying goes "A Conservative is a Liberal that's been mugged"
For many people unfortunately they need to have some tragic event happen to them personally or to someone close before they change a mindset.

Narrow minded thinking is responsible for that as well as being brainwashed into thinking that there will always be someone else out there to protect you and your loved ones.

So his limited experience on this earth should dictate what happens to others?

                  I think not.

Lots of people use guns to protect their families.
And not only that, WHY NOT have the option handy?

Even if it only happens to 0.0000000001% of the population, the outcome is tragic and it takes little effort to give yourself a better chance of avoiding a tragic outcome.

Without a gun you have zero chance.
With a gun you have a better chance than zero.

                  Stay armed, my friends.

Tell him "when your rights to express your opinions have been infringed upon and voted away, i could have helped to preserve them but i no longer have that power".
I dreamed of owning a (insert off roster gun here)...

Oh yeah....then the earth splits open with me on one side and the (off roster gun) on the other. Then appeared a large red-glowing pit with gavin newscum, diane frankenstein and governor "brown the drain" at the bottom of it, waving their pitchforks at me.

The problem here is he believes the anti gun media no matter what they say. I had a friend like this who has since become not a friend. These people typically view gun owners as cowboys with itchy trigger fingers.

You can pick your friends but not your relatives.

                          Choose wisely.

Even Gandhi preferred violence over cowardice.

Peaceful resistance is not passive it is very active.

                                Let's play devil's advocate for a second...

OP, this is a gun forum. What kind of responses were you expecting?

All you're going to get here is members piling on saying ditch the friend. Reinforcing - what I assume - you already wanted to hear. Same goes if you posted this on California Tree Huggers dot net.
