Does anyone else double up on hearing protection?

Make sure your shooting glasses aren't creating a sound leak. Muffs usually work for me, but my kids (with good ears still) use muffs and foam plugs. Can't be too careful with your hearing.

Indoor ranges yes. Outdoor ranges sometimes....if next to someone shooting hand cannon. Out in the woods just ear plugs.

I've always doubled up. I'm young and still have good hearing. I'd like to keep it that way. No issue missing commands, but then again I can have a conversation with someone while doubling up on ear pro, and I'm not talking electronic muffs. I have extra sensitive delicate flower hearing. If I don't double up, I get temporary PTSD.

Haha yeah, it was my first bolt-action rifle, and I was by myself with no advice. You should've seen my chest and shoulder after that 300 winmag, I also developed a shooting flinch that took weeks to get rid of. Lesson learned, for any new shooters I always suggest smaller calibers.

I do as of a few months ago. Had a scare after shooting all day. Took out my foam ear plugs at the end of the day and couldn't hear at all from my left ear. Luckily it gradually got better over the course of four days or so. Cant hear the gong as well but I'll take the trade off. I always giggled at my neighbor for wearing ear muffs (and every other possible piece of PPE) when mowing his lawn, now I do the same thing (plugs only)

I've been playing in bands where the bass/guitar players amps start at 11 and only get louder from there...so I feel you pain.

I have low grade tinnitus (ringing in the ears) that is pretty much constant. At my house the TV is pretty much always on as background noise to help cover it up.

As for the range, I isually wear the foam -30db plugs. If the lanes aren't seperated, or there's a cannon being fired, I add the leight electronic ones to provide additional protection.

Are those the electronic ones that generate white noise?

I have hearing loss for reasons similar to those discussed above. I wear plugs and muffs, and have difficulty hearing range commands. I am not willing to compromise what little hearing I have left, nor increase my tinnitus; I am considering electronic hearing protection and would be very happy for some recommendations.

Molded ear plugs plus muffs all the time. Also wear molded ear plugs when I ride my motorcycle.

Yes. Plugs and electronic muffs.

Carry plugs at work, wear both running an engine, or bring my emuffs if I know I'll be doing noisy work. Too bulky to carry muffs all day.

I don't shoot without double anymore.

I cannot wear muffs while shooting long guns, so I have tried a bunch of stuff and settled on Decibulz custom fit earmolds.

In this last year, I started to wear both.

It's the only way to go, especially at an indoor range.

I shoot a 44 magnum with hot (really hot) loads. Ringing in the ears with just one hearing protection.

Wish I had done this all my life. Suffered high frequency loss (mild) in the military (competition shooting).
