Does anyone else double up on hearing protection?

My hearing is shot as it is. I've been going to shows since I was 15 (I'm almost 42 now), and very rarely wore earplugs. As a result, I have significant hearing loss in my left ear. Nowadays, I wear foam earplugs at shows, but when I go to the range I wear both foam earplugs and earmuffs. Maybe I'm being a bit anal about it, but one time at the range with only foam plugs, and some dude was shooting .44 magnum three lanes over; those Bad Larrys were LOUD! I ended up doubling up and felt it provided much more protection.

I do too. I heard stories of older folks having constant ringing noise. I do not want to spend my later days with such inconvenience.

I also heard hearing never heals; every bit of hearing damage is permanent to some extent.

I also use both earplugs and earmuffs, every time I go to the range.

After shooting my 300 winmag with just plugs and having a constant ringing for days, and reading that hearing never heals, I now double up on both earplugs and earmuffs.

I used to double up until I missed a cease fire range command. No more.

I'm 66 yrs old and been shooting since old enough to lift a rifle. I used to go through 100 rnds of 12 ga. and at least 200 rnds of 38 spl a week.

All I can say today is

              Eh, what say?

Yes I've double up since the 80s, because I have tinnitis.

I was worried about that once I started doubling up, but so far I stay cognisant of neighboring shooters and haven't missed a ceasefire yet.

I can only imagine how loud that was. Yikes!

I double up while using my electronic muffs. No issues with hearing commands.

Double plugging is smart. I have tinnitus from my Army time (stupid machineguns) so get a VA check.

Haha yeah, it was my first bolt-action rifle, and I was by myself with no advice. You should've seen my chest and shoulder after that 300 winmag, I also developed a shooting flinch that took weeks to get rid of. Lesson learned, for any new shooters I always suggest smaller calibers.

I've been playing in bands where the bass/guitar players amps start at 11 and only get louder from there...so I feel you pain.

I have low grade tinnitus (ringing in the ears) that is pretty much constant. At my house the TV is pretty much always on as background noise to help cover it up.

As for the range, I isually wear the foam -30db plugs. If the lanes aren't seperated, or there's a cannon being fired, I add the leight electronic ones to provide additional protection.
                          Sorry, not sorry.

I use filtered plugs with electronic muffs over them. Saves your ears, lets you hear range commands and converse with others with minimal interference.

                              Sometimes I do.
But it's sorta late. I already have some good hearing loss.
Sure, I missed a few cease fire calls. But I never shot anybody.
I usually catch on when I see someone walking out there.
