Also give some thought to what you're going to do with this rifle. If you're ultimate plan is to run an optic, then you probably want a flat top with a low profile gas block. Having a big fixed front sight post sticking up in the middle of my optic annoys the crap out of me. YMMV.

And I say this because the M&P and the Colt usually come with a fixed front sight post.

223 Wylde is nice to have and 556 NATO is built for higher pressures than a 223 chamber.
So at least 556 if you don't see a 223 Wylde you like.

I'm hoping to. TBD. It's been awhile.

I wouldn't mind building my own, but I'd like to become familiar with how they work and go together before building my own. Thus, I'd like my first purchase to be a ready to go rifle. I most certainly have the skills and talents to build my own but I'm just not ready to do that yet.

The best way to become familiar is to assemble a lower; buy an upper.

It's easy peasy. Honestly, after you do it the first time you'll be surprised at how easy it was to do...aside from the front detent.

Don't overthink it, any of the ones listed are good. I picked parts from each DD upper, LMT lower, LWRC rail, because I put it together over a period of time and found decent deals. I had a bad experience with a Colt in the Marines and even though it wasn't the guns fault I have had that stuck in my head since. I know it's stupid but that's just me. Good luck.

Build with DD barrels. I have two and they are excellent, the bear gun up ^above^ is DD with JD Machine. It's cheap to have these assembled in a shop if you don't want to. Pick the good parts and save $.

I like my Daniel Defense stuff. And I like them a bit more since they told academy sports to suck it.

Can't say that I own anything on that list other than a Daniel Defense, but my DD has left me not feeling like I need to buy another AR, as it can't get better for a similar price. I've tried my friends 6920, and it felt meh to me after the DD. Plus, the weight. It's pretty awesome.

The only thing I'd mention about DD, is that they prefer heavier bullets. I had some issues with the 55 grain, not many, but a few (and I only shoot factory loads). No problems with 62 grain and higher

So I went to my LGS today at lunchtime and had a look at two from Daniel Defense.

                      Daniel Defense V11™ LW

                      Daniel Defense V11™ Pro

The Pro has a heavier barrel, a wider charging handle, a trick brake and perhaps the clincher, a Geiselle trigger. (Very nice.) The LGS wants 1,629.00 for the LW and 1,879.00 for the Pro.

Both are rifle length gas systems and are otherwise outfitted with the same furniture such as a full length Picatinny rail with keymods at 3, 6, and 9.

Between the two, which would y'all choose?

You are paying $250.00 for a Trick break, Geiselle trigger, and a charging handle.
I would say that if you would put these on anyways (At a later date), go for the Pro. You won't be saving much if at all, but they are not over charging you for those improvements.

It also comes with the heavier barrel and the trick muzzle climb mitigator.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the added weight, but likely that won't bother me. I'm not going to be lugging it around in the woods. And buying the Geiselle trigger separately is 260 dollars so it would seem getting all four "extras" on the Pro model is a deal.

My heavy 18" build is a bench rest gun. If not on a rest, I would get a bipod for it.
My 16" standard build is good to go out in the field. That's the one I go camping with.
It all matters what you will do with it.
But I digress, they were both lost in the great boating accident of 2013.

So I pulled the trigger, so to speak. My DDM4 V11 Pro is in jail.

I'm not going to spring for optics yet so I'm looking for recommendations for folding sights to go on the Picatinney rail. Any recommendations?

And thanks all for your feedback!

There's my order with quality as the priority. If it's only plinking, S&W will do. You won't be able to notice much performance difference if you're not maximizing the capability of the rifle (reliability, accuracy, impulse, etc)
