    Another "Help Me Decide" Thread....

'Sorry if this has been covered before, but I want current info.

I'm thinking I'll get my AR sooner than later and I'm looking just for a top notch brand. I'm not interested in building my own. Just a quality rifle throughout. A few years ago, I put together a list from various internet sources and came up with the following manufacturers as being among the best. So, of the list below, which is the best? Best for the money? And am I missing any other good manufacturer? Oh, and I'm looking for 5.56 and it'll be used for plinking at the range primarily. No long range shooting beyond 200 or so.

    Thanks!

    Colt
    Noveske
    Daniel Defense
    Bravo Company (BCM)
    LMT
    S&W

There's really no wrong or right on that list, you'll have people advocating for each, and price range is very different from budget S&W to Noveske. I bought a S&W M&P Sport II as budget rifle and it's been flawless, and bought a Noveske stripped lower to build eventually.

just find the most expensive one and buy it. I mean you're just plinking at the range within 200 yards, unlike those noobs at the indoor range that only go outto 25 yards, so you're going to want something to notch.

ok, all joking aside, what budget are you working with? Pretty much any AR will do for your intended use.

Can't really go wrong with any of those on your list.
Boils down to how much you want to spend.

I'm partial to 2 on your list, but it's just my opinion.

What might those two be? And why are you partial to them.

Though I don't want a budget AR, I don't want to spend a fortune either. I'm thinking maybe in the range of 1500 to 1800. Just the basic rifle and I can add bells and whistles later.

I am partial to Daniel Defense. Quality, Reliability, Durability. All the things an AR should have. DD uses all quality parts.

I have 3 on that list. DD is my fav, but all are good.

I vote BCM but I own two of their uppers. Any of those choices would be good. I suppose it depends on flavor and price at the time.

After more searching articles and reviews on the Internet, I'm realizing making a choice ain't gonna be easy.

Another question: what local gun shop in the Silicon Valley would be a good place to shop without the prices being too far out of line. I'd like to support my LGS.

Colt 6920 is sort of the standard by which others are measured, which is not to say it is the best, just the standard bearer. No bad choices on that list.

I think you missed the point The Colt is as close to a a basic, government issue, standard AR as there is. I said it isn't the best. It is, again, pretty much your standard issue AR.

You buy Colt for the name as much as the gun. That being said, it's still a solid gun that will kill paper for you all day long. And if it matters, you will always get your money back at resell...

Why is LaRue not on your list?
