As you guys already read in the news, this incident happened in March of this year. I didn't have time to post this sooner, sorry.
A small jewelry store's owner in city of Torrance, L.A. county, California shot dead an attempted robber inside the store.
I knew the owner Ted through a very close friend, he is a soft spoken, small stature guy in his late 50s. Being at the same location for 30 years.
The 20 year old convicted felon (BTW, a well build, black male) just got out of jail months ago came in to his shop with a gun trying to rob him around noontime, when Ted saw the gun pointed at him, he was prepared to get shot, but didn't. Ted managed to shot the suspect two times, dropped the suspect on the floor, Torrance PD arrived within 2 minutes.
I spoke to Ted in details about the incident.
Here're the amazing things happened:
1) The suspect was down, blocking the door way on the floor preventing officers from entering the store, they rammed in, flip the suspect, took away the firearm, cuff him, then drag the then still alive suspect out of the shop by the legs and throw him on the parking lot.
What about preserving the crime scene ? So don't believe what you saw in the movies.
LE don't really gives a sxxx.
2) CSI & inspector repeated the same question a dozen times to Ted about the shooting, seeking any flaws in his testimony, Torrance PD detectives actually stepped in and tell them to knock it off: "Stop! This is a good shooting!" Ted was never being considered any wrong doing. DA agreed.
There's justice in California.
3) Here's the real interesting and scary part of the actual shooting:
Ted shot the suspect twice, using his .357 Mag. revolver with Remington JHP.
First shot went through the suspect's lung, turned and stopped at his liver or kidney, the second shot went to his head behind ear while he turned after the first shot.
The suspect went down on the floor, bleeding, he didn't die anytime soon, he still moves and making noises in pain for over 10 minutes.
I don't know any handgun caliber against human target were more effective than .357 Mag. JHP. The shot placement were nearly perfect, one in the chest and one in the head. And the bullet performed just as designed, no over penetration, full energy transformed inside the target.
The biopsy report couldn't identify which shot was ultimate fatal in this case because either one could have killed the suspect. But he didn't die on the spot.
So, my conclusion is fire more shots.
