Bro always always wrap your receiver in Angel prayers before you work on it, each scratch not only affects the accuracy but offsets the weight. Horrible OP

Strip the receivers and cerakote it something he'll like. Tungsten or sniper gray would look awesome on a JRC with black furniture.
No Google images of cerakoted JRCs except for camo, but this aesthetic:

I'm just wondering why a wrench was used to clean an AR.

I was just about to write this same thing.

Forgive me, OP, for i know these JRCs not...

But, were you using a wrench to take off the barrel or removing the forend? To clean it better?

My thoughts as well. Why use a barrel wrench to clean it? Crappy if that is required every time.

Umm, expensive lesson there. Sorry it happened to you.
You were playing GI Joe Armory Sergeant with Dad's AR.

Should not have taken the wrench to a working gun for cleaning. Hold the gun over a lined trash can and spray heavily with CLP (under $10 a can at Walmart). Leave to drip out. Wipe down with a rag and dry it with another. No harm will come to the gun this way. You do not need a wrench for cleaning an AR. If it does not come apart by hand it does not need to come apart for cleaning.

As others suggested Aluma Black or a Sharpie Pen for a home made remedy or take it to someone who does Cerakoting and have it coated for about the price of a good stripped lower and the LPK. Lucky your dad is cool about it.

....it'd be even less of a deal.
                        ...it'd be expected.
...I'd just put it back on the trailer as usual.

It's a JCR, I think you do need a wrench for basic cleaning and maintenance.

If you need a wrench for basic cleaning sell it and get an AR that is not poorly designed. JMO
