In high school we used to go dove or quail hunting before and after school, and our shotguns were in our vehicles that were parked in the school parking lot. When birds were not in season, we had .22s in our vehicles so we could go shooting after school.

I'm younger than most of you, but I remember:

Playing "Guns" with all my buddies, and no one batting an eye.

Taking care of myself from the time I got off school till my parents got home from work, and no one calling the police.

I remember California gun shops full of Uzis, HK 91, HK 94 and Spas 12 rifles and shotguns. Long guns went home that day with you. No wait period.

God. How great was that. Uzi was my first firearm purchase in 1987. $595.00.

How about when there was no internet! Had to go to the library to look stuff up. Rotary dial phones? Pay phones that took a dime (or pay phones period)? Rabbit ear antennas (making a comeback now)? Lap seat belts?

I remember when I could sling my rifle over my shoulder and bicycle the few miles to the local gunsmith. In the middle of the Silicon Valley.

I also remember when me and my friends could head up into the Santa Cruz Mountains, just west of Palo Alto, and go squirrel and rabbit hunting.

Just last year, though, I ran across a couple guys in full camo carrying nice Benelli 12 gauges coming back from duck hunting in the marshlands in the south end of the SF bay just east of Sunnyvale.

I remember when I could buy a pistol at the hardware store.

I haven't had to "hunt" for ammo for quite a while.

I know of some places where you can STILL buy a pistol in the hardware store!

I have friends who's kids still play cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians all the time. Refreshing to see. My kids watched themselves from the time my oldest was 10 until they both graduated HS.

I remember the San Francisco Gun Shop in downtown SF - you could buy an AK-47 for $350 and as much ammo as you could carry, just fill out the form and no waiting period

I'm in my mid 20s so no I don't remember any of that. Sounds nice though

Just a few years older so my contribution to the thread would be seeing a Beretta 92 mixed in with a few other handguns on sale at my local K-Mart as a kid. Then seeing them stop selling handguns. Then a few years later no guns. Then no K-Marts...

I remember when cz52's were 139 bucks a piece, I bought 3.
I remember when Mosin Nagant's were 79 bucks each at big5, I bought 1.

I remember when pawn shops had more guns than pieces jewelry. Hardware stores were gun shops, and a good burger was a quarter.

I truly wish I could have been a part of those times. In my mid-twenties and new to being a father I can't understand how we come so far from those good ol times dad and grandpa always talked about.
