Do you know him personally? What leads you to believe that he is not an "actual shooter/ hunter/gun owner ?" Have you ever had a conversation with the man? Have you ever been to the NRA Annual meeting to see who is attending? Have you been to the Board of Directors Meeting and see who is actually on the Board?

Hey dwalker
Since you are no longer involved with the NRA, why is it so hard for you to take a "live and let live" approach? Not anymore. I prefer to spend my money with groups that are actually involved, like the RMGO.
http://www.rmgo.org/index.php?option...ned&Itemid=206
Why do you have a "usual tirade" against the NRA.
Do you really feel your approach helps our cause? How is attacking the NRA helpful to gun owners?
It appears to me that you are playing into the anti's hands with your attacks on the NRA.Last edited by 003; 05-23-2016, 5:37 PM.Comment

What would that do for me when I've seen videos of the guy flagging people on the range and fumbling his way through operating a rifle? He is a beltway insider who joined for political considerations.Do you know him personally? What leads you to believe that he is not an "actual shooter/ hunter/gun owner ?" Agreed. Wayne may have a lot of positive attributes but he's horrible as the spokesperson for the NRA. The best thing he could do for the cause is to step aside in his spokesperson role. I'm not saying he should give up his leadership role, but he just doesn't do well in front of the camera.I would prefer an actual shooter/hunter/gun owner to Wayne. His rhetoric comes off as very rehearsed and fake. But he has some powerful beltway connections in a career of lobbying.
As much as I hate identity politics it would be nice to have someone that doesn't reaffirm the stereotype that gun owners are just old white guys."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Soooo... you are OK with giving the largest gun organization in the country money time and again, and yet where is that money being spent? Where are the billboards? Where are the radio spots? Where is ANY sign of life from the NRA?Hey dwalker

I am not affiliated, but that does not mean I do not have an opinion on the organization that claims to represent gun owners and thier interests.Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

I have seen many NRA commercials on TV now. Excellent commercials at that.

I was wondering this too! You could put a very stereotypical type person for it but that may cause problems. I suggested having a gay and lesbian night at a sbooting range I once managed but I was overruled. Also how was I suppose to know who was gay or not? I planned on offering a discount.Comment

According to Richard Feldman's Ricochet, LaPierre definitely wasn't much of a gun guy when he got involved with the NRA. But it pays. He makes a million dollars a year.I would prefer an actual shooter/hunter/gun owner to Wayne. His rhetoric comes off as very rehearsed and fake. And having just spent three days at NRAAM 145 in Louisville, I can affirm it's pretty much old white guys, and their wives. Fat ones, too.
That needs to change.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. You are 100% correct. That is mainly the case in my experience with most people heavily in to the shooting sports as a whole. CGNers have told me how I'm wrong however I travel the country and have been to many gun shops and shows and ranges everywhere not just in SoCal.According to Richard Feldman's Ricochet, LaPierre definitely wasn't much of a gun guy when he got involved with the NRA. But it pays. He makes a million dollars a year.

We really need to reach out to younger people, women, gays and minorities as much as we can. Especially younger people. I am sure the average youngster attending public school in California is being indoctrinated on how guns are bad.Comment

Indeed.
However, the NRA can't really do that. The NRA's rhetoric is directed almost entirely to its base, the guys who write those monthly $5 checks and who include the NRA in their wills. The people who crowded the aisles at NRAAM. The folks who actually think Ted Nugent is a fine and respectable ambassador for the shooting community. No, those people pay the bills for the NRA, and the NRA can't do or say anything that would offend them. When LaPierre gets up in front of 4,500 of his members to give a speech, he is not thinking about the Washington Post or CNN. Those guys are not his audience.
I can't blame the NRA for that.
I can, however, blame individual gun owners for not being more welcoming of new shooters of every shape, size, color and -- most importantly -- opinion.
Richard Feldman told me to my face that I am too radical in my opinions about gun rights. That's okay, that, in my eyes doesn't make him a "traitor;" we both want the same things, we just have different viewpoints, different priorities. But I am sure he agrees with me that the typical NRA rhetoric is almost offensive to many ordinary Americans. And that's okay too, as long as we understand why it is like that and why it must be that way.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. Yeah, the NRA is so ineffective that Hillary and the gang wants to shut it down. Yeah, so ineffective they have been able to pass whatever they like since 2008. Yeah, so much ineffective that BO admits we have been a thorn in his side and that his major regret is that he hasn't been able to accomplish anything meaningful regarding gun control.
Sorry Charlie, you can't appeal to everyone and have it remain effective, and if you do, you will appeal to no one.

So go out and spread the word. Don't blame the old white guys and their fat wives for being right. That needs to change.Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt

Rmgo?? Lolol. Im missing their national presence.
I have not seen any of these NRA commercials, what channels and time slots do they air?
So exactly what has the NRA done for Commifornia lately? Hmm? Is Chabot still closing? Suppressors still illegal? Bullet buttons still a thing? AW ban still in place?
RMGO does not sell out the 2nd to appeal to a "base". Like Dudley or hate him- he doesnt give an inch on the 2nd.
The NRA has sold the 2nd down the river more times than any other organization.
The posters above are correct, they appeal to old white guys like me with thier 5K dollar shotguns they shoot birds with, or the guys with NM Garands shooting Palma and high power matches on .mil ranges. The ones who could give a flying fornicating rodents arse about your AR, or NFA items, or much of anything else. The ones who will cave on AW Bans and DID back in 94, because they honestly do not care about anything that doesnt directly effect thier hobby.
Where is Eddie the Eagle? hmm? Where are the NRA sponsored shooting programs in the areas that really really need them? Where are the teen shooting teams and organized high school level matches?
What USPSA matches does the NRA sponsor? For that matter beyond its own smallbore and highpower matches, what shooting sports does the NRA actively support?
Where is the NRA National shooting team in USPSA, Cowboy Action, 3-gun, etc?
Is that not what I gave the NRA to do? To FURTHER the shooting sports and to PROTECT my rights to participate in them?
I CHALLENGE the NRA to make a commercial like glock and daniel defense have, and get it into a major time slot. Not on the Hunting channel at 2AM, I mean on multiple major channels during whatever tripe millions of Americans waste thier time watching.
But we all know they will not do that. Might offend someone. Might hurt the cause.
RMGO gets my money because I believe Dudley and his organization is actually doing something to protect the 2nd for EVERYONE. He is literally small potatoes next to the mighty NRA, and yet it ws the RMGO and not the NRA who has led the fight in Colorado to overturn bad firearms laws and prevent new ones from getting passed.
I ask again, where is the NRA? and wtf did they do with my money?
You may think I am attacking the NRA and to some extent I am taking them to task, because there is always someone out there who, when the call to fight a bill is raised will immediately shout "GIVE MORE TO THE NRA!" and I am forced to ask, Why? and show me what they are doing besides paying a DC insider a million bucks a year based on his connections rather than any specific firearms knowledge or experience. And who is not doing a good job.Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

The NRA can not fight this war alone and CA is a lost case, until WE change our attitude. No one is coming to save us, ok? No damn white knight.
We're you involved in the sheriff's election here in LA? Do you remember how WE failed to get our guy elected? We simply could not get enough of these supposed 2A fighters to get off their behinds and do something here locally to start the ball rolling. Please stop with the "what has the NRA done for me lately" bs. Because it's disingenuous at best.
