Your custom set-up is a negative to those people because not only is it full of parts they don't want there is the risk they were installed poorly by a kitchen table gunsmith.

And that's great that you took the time to ensure that everything was installed properly, but that doesn't change the fact that the accessories that you wanted on that rifle probably aren't what other people would want.

You were willing to pay for them because it's what you wanted to put on your gun that you were going to go out and shoot. I, however, am not willing to pay for the accessories that you wanted.

You are reading too much into *how* he said it. The employee said virtually the same thing, just a bit more explicit - *that* gun at *that* price will never sell in *that* shop.

It really doesn't matter what the shape of the gun is and whether it's worth what you're asking.

You can do it that way on your own spare time, but in business it's a waste of time and money. If you have to spend X extra time to get Y extra dollars, the extra Y better be worth the extra X.

That's why you have all sorts of crazy sales at large retailers.

Well, maybe he was right that "you'll never get that!" Why don't you just keep the original price and prove him wrong?

I don't doubt the parts were correctly installed, but it is certainly a risk with used guns.

A friend of mine has bought three used bolt guns in the past few years. Not one had a correctly bedded action, and one had head space issues. Every single one had a lot of custom "extras."

My advice to you would be to part the thing out to the basics. Someone out there wants your stock, but they probably already have the guts of the rifle. Same goes for the scope. A fixed 10x would be worthless to me, I might be in the market for a 700, but prefer 3-9x on a .308. I definitely don't want to pay +$400 extra for a rifle for a scope I'll need to sell to fund a different scope. But, I bet there's someone with a rifle out there wanting that particular scope.

I think used stock guns can be a great find...from my perspective at least. Because it's used, it's normally (depending on the seller and how used it is...or the "rare" factor...love that when it's in the subject line, immediately tells me the seller is going to ask for more than it's probably worth as he/she is promoting the "rareness") less expensive than a new version of the gun.

Additionally, because it's stock (and would need to be in great condition), I get to do whatever I want to customize it and I don't have to undo someone else's work before beginning mine (that's usually when you find out how well upgrades were or weren't installed).

                    But to each their own.

I did see in the OP's listing that the original post has $2.400 OBO listed (as of this moment) and a few threads down he has "price lowered" and the price is $2,500. Interesting. I think that rifle will see a few more prices changes before being sold...or it's going back in the safe as is so commonly stated.

Is the guy an middle aged chubby Hispanic fellow? He has worked in the industry for a long time. Is he the new owner now not some guy with a beard? A lot of times it is not what you are telling me it is how you are telling it to me. Common on CGN and the internet and many gun stores is a lack of tact and common courtesy and manners.

Thank you, the guy with the beard was cool, but the chubby guy was the one I wasn't impressed with.

Why consign it when you can sell it here for whatever the heck you want for it.

So you went in there with some B.S. scam about consigning you gun, knowing it was overpriced and after wasting his time, your pissed because you got a reality check. Who's the douche?
