And how many rounds do you shoot in each trip? I only shoot 150-200 when I go, which is only 1-2x a month...wondering if that is good enough to become a decent shooter (what is the definition of a decent shooter btw? 1-2 inch groupings at 20 years? )

You will also get a lot of mileage (even more so than live firing) from daily dry fire practice. Also, most handguns are NOT capable of 1" groupings from a Ransom rest at 20 yards let alone shooting freehand."... when a man has shot an elephant his life is full"- John Alfred Jordan

I'll do about 200 rds of 9mm, 100rds of 5.56, and 50 12ga shells. 150 or so 9mm goes to the idpa shoot, then I just do whatever comes to mind afterwards. Usually *try* to clean plate racks or do drills. Sometimes you just NEED to do a mag dump, because 'murica.
5.56 I'll pack 5 round mags or so, rapid fire at steel silhouettes around 1-200 yards, and practice those speed reloads.
I'd like to practice loading my 12ga at home, but with the cost of dummy rounds, I can't afford to do it safely. Yeah, I could just eject the live shells at the range, but that's no fun!Comment

Not enough!! I hsve targets and backstop about 50 feet from my house and still don't shoot enough! Work, kids, kids baseball games, life in general always seems to get in the way... It'll get better as they get older I hope...
I shoot anywhere from just the magazine I've been carrying or up to 4-500 rounds... Just depends how much time I haveLast edited by Maht_g; 05-02-2016, 6:05 AM.sigpic"That's more suspicious than a nun doing squats in a cucumber field!"Comment

I will go 1 or two times a month or once a week on a good month. I usually take about 200-250 rounds of each caliber im shooting usually about 3 or 4Comment

Range only one or two times 150 to 200 rounds each per month
50 for accuracy, 50 on multiple targets and different challenges and 50 for timed draw and accuracy.
Dry practice fundamentals several times a week.
I try to toss in Carbine and or shotgun scenarios monthly as well, but honestly just to keep my edge on those perishable skills.
Should probably toss in eight hours a week at the gym and 2 hours a week running (Pushing Sixty) Being in shape is paramount to being a good shooter and Protector of Loved Ones IMHOComment

1 or 2 trips a month is good for muscle memory, however are you in an indoor range? Regulated range? Shooting from a table/bench with no rapid fire, no holster pull or reflex from low ready, in my opinion is what makes you a "good shooter." You can take 20 rounds and as long as you are practicing the proper procedures/operations/suggestions then you will gain great abilities.Comment

I only went once last month, I try to go twice a month on average. I also don't shoot at any indoor range. I try to focus on one gun when I do go. But you know how that goes when you bring at least 4 with you.sigpicComment

Maybe once every other month? I've been pretty busy lately and just haven't had the time off.
"Decent" shooter is pretty subjective. You can hit what you're aiming at? It's hard to get a small grouping depending on what you're shooting.Comment

^^ I should start just having someone "issue" me my firearm for the day, lol I cant go without a few. Its like leaving the rest of the kids at home lolComment

2-3 per month between rifle and handgun.
We shoot between 100-200 for handgun and about 300-400 for rifle per person. That include 22lr which we train on.Comment

1 - 2 inch groups at 20 *yards* would be superb and well above average. I go for 2 - 3 inch groups at 7 yards with a handgun.
I try to go twice a month at least. Lately, my trips have not been for accuracy, but more to learn a new platform or test a new acquisition, except for actual classes that are once every 2 months. Every range trip is about 200 - 250 rds of centerfire ammo. One Way to Post Pics ********** How to Submit an iTrader Rating That Counts ********** Brass for Sale
