Ok, my sight is marked a bit differently. The setting below the 100meter mark which is marked with a U shaped symbol is the tactical setting. Don't use the Tactical setting to zero your rifle, you will be shooting high.

Ah, okay, Just figured it'd be hard to set the sighting to fifty yards because the notches don't lock exactly in the middle, while the "1" setting would be close to the 100 yard setting. Is there a particular number you set to for the distances of 50 and 100 yards?

Yes, I do 50-100 ranges at the 100 meter mark. You will note very little elevation difference between the two ranges. Once you do the 150-200 ranges, you will need a bit more practice and then the 2/3 position will come in handy.
Take your time getting used to it at 50, and you will enjoy seeing progress when you take it further. Its a very good rifle up to 150 meters. Above that, don't expect to be hitting a dime

Well hopefully by next year when I work up some more money I can get my hands on a Mosin Nagant M91/30 or a Garand for some precision shooting. (Maybe both, bwahaha)

Take your time before you discover you have no money ;-) The SKS is a fine rifle to own, and great rifle to learn to shoot on. The only better rifle would be a 22LR based one because ammo is so cheap. You will be impressed with what you can do at 50-100meters, and keep in mind that most tactical encounters happen at those ranges. The 300yard encounters are rare, very rare!
