Just putting that stuff on any weapon is silly and makes you look like a Mall Ninja.

      According to the story.....
“Inscripted on the officer’s gun, and I hate to use profanity, but it said, “you’re f*****,”’ Laney Sweet, Daniel Shaver’s wife said".

The lawyer (who is representing the decedent's wife and children) was trying to get bail set and lay the groundwork for naming the city/PD in the eventual civil suit (which he can negotiate into a settlement for the widow.)

Since the officer has been indicted for 2d degree murder, and the CoP is acting to fire him, I would argue the inscription on the dust cover was meant for himself. Essentially, if he had to use the weapon, then he was "f*****".

      And he is.

          I remember this one.

The cop really REALLY screwed up and he will very likely go to jail.

It's not proof of anything but a) it just looks bad, and b) usually with a police shooting there's a lot of "This guy's a highly trained professional of the highest standards, you have to trust he made a reasonable decision in the moment, who are you to second guess him?" and this undermines that whole approach. Now he's bozo bad judgement wanna be ninja guy.

For years I have maintained that a person shouldn't dress up their firearms like the officer did. In the event of a shooting that rifle will become evidence. If you have some catchy slogan on your rifle, do you want a jury to see it? Stretching that a bit further, if you are involved in a shooting, law enforcement will likely serve a search warrant on your residence and seize every firearm, all of your ammunition and spare magazines as well as any posters, photographs or firearms related materials. As previously mentioned; what exactly are you willing to let a jury see?

I suspect that wouldn't happen for a legal, or "good" shoot.

So, my AR-22 with "Say Hello to my Little Friend" and zombie stickers is mall ninja? It... probably is...
If you need help with any stragglers, call a friend, because it's likely that they have a gun. America in particular have done exceptionally well taking care of the problem, as there are 1.12 guns for every 1 American citizen. So throw a rock, you'll probably hit a gun, pick up that gun, then shoot a zombie.

So does it make me a mall ninja because i have an American flag and "shall not be infringed" on my dust cover?
Obviously your ****ed was not the best choice of inscriptions for a duty weapon, but i don't think a blanket assumption should be put over all weapon modifications, especially performance enhancers like trigger pull weight, different weight buffers and buttstock's, thats just ludicrous!
And to put the same assumption toward using reloads in your self defense weapon is also retarded if you will, most skilled reloader's can produce finished cartridges that far outperform off the shelf factory ammo tailored to their weapon and use.
But again this cop IS a moron AND made a horrible judgement call putting that on a duty rifle, but that shouldn't transfer the assumption or idiocy to everyone who modifies their firearms.
I have only one store bought rifle the rest are built and modified by ME and the only rifle i have performance and reliability issues with is that lone store bought one.....
                        Just my 2c.

So having something like this on the back of a carry gun is probably a bad idea?

Not quite as edgy as what the officer had on his rifle, however it does describe the use of a CCW pretty accurately.

                            Wait.

Wouldn't the inscription fall under the First Amendment?

What does this have to do with he FACTS of the shoot (I haven't read or heard anything about this case)?

What if I have "here kitty, kitty" inscribed?

Does that make me a "lover, not a fighter"?

Yes it does. And it has nothing to do with the facts.

However just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD, and this is a perfect example why.

This is a good example of an attorney spinning something, which is their job. They don't have to prove anything, but if enough jurors fall his spin, he did his job regardless of actual facts.
Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.
