How many is too many of the exact same gun

I like the idea of interchangeable mags for the family.

Yesterday I PPT my 3rd VP9 LE. Sounds crazy, but there is method to my madness as I have 3 sons and I'm building a hand me down collection. But that got me thinking . . . How many others out there who have multiples of the exact same gun. A

I personally like collecting as many different types of popular firearms as I can (1 Glock, one 1911, 1 revolver, eventually 1 Beretta, etc) but if you find one model you LOVE then hey more power to you.

Most I have is 5 exactly the same, followed by 3 followed by 2

There is a Calgunner out there who like 1911s. Legend has it, this is 1/4 of his collection...Drool factor of 11..and I dont own a glock...

Id like to have at least one more VP9, the damn roster kinda screws that up though. Luckily my parents live out of state so at some point I can make that happen for normal prices. For now my P30L light LEM serves as a close backup to my VP9. Ill buy another G19 and G26 at some point also. When I finish my wifes AR I plan to build a clone of the BCM I just put together.

I have duplicate Sig P229s, S&W 66s, 1911s, Winchester 94s, AKs, AR-15s, and Mosin Nagants. If you find something you like, why not get more?

I have several different exact duplicates of different rifles, shotguns and handguns and many variations of different types of firearms. So what? If I could afford to, I'd have a large collection of Winchester 1890s and 1906es.

I had a few guns that I liked so much I bought duplicates of. After a while, the originals were still my favorite and I didn't have the desire to use the duplicates because the broken-in originals were smooth, proven, and reliable. I had no reason to use the duplicates so they were just taking up space.

Now I prefer to have only one of each gun and actually use them.

Rifles yes. Pistols not so much, but I sure wouldn't mind getting another Hi-Power or Colt 1911. Come to think of it, that'd be rather nice.

Funny you say that - I used to think that a 30-gun safe was reasonably large, but it fills up faster than you'd think.

I've seen guys have 20+ of the exact same old outboard motor, identically restored.

I have 2 SKS's, 2 Marlin 60's and 2 Nylon 66's ... because when I just had one of each when I took them to the range everyone else wanted to shoot them all day and I didn't get a chance.

Having multiples to hand down sounds like a great idea.
