How many is too many of the exact same gun

Yesterday I PPT my 3rd VP9 LE. Sounds crazy, but there is method to my madness as I have 3 sons and I'm building a hand me down collection. But that got me thinking . . . How many others out there who have multiples of the exact same gun. A

personally I only do that with mosins when I can find them for $100+

I do it. Exact same gun.

I also do it on very similar guns (i.e. blued and stainless but otherwise the same, etc.)

I don't do it and I probably never would.
But I know of quite a few who do, one way or another.
For instance there is one who is collecting every type of Browning Buckmark ever made, or during certain years, the 1990s or something.
Of which there are something like 17.
        Anyway, to each his own.

I have several that I have multiples of; if I see a deal on a gun I will buy it. I would never buy more than one of the same gun new though.

Depends on the objective. If you want a bunch of unique guns, then buy unique guns. If you want interchangeability and ergonomic training for users, then the same form factor is the way to go.

Also, if you find a gun that's a really nice platform, and you think it might be made of unobtainium in the future, why not buy a few of them if you can?

I personally find guns every once in a while that look like short-run designs, and if they look good, I'll buy a bunch of them just to see what happens ten years from now.

We own two Shields in 9mm (one each as carry guns), two G23 Gen3s (plus 9mm and .357 bbls) and three RIA 1911 Tacticals in 9mm (last of our SSEs, and we have three sons).

I also own several guns that fill only one role, i.e. three bolt HB rifles in .22-250. Sometimes I shoot a particularly active site and don't want to overheat barrels, other times one of the boys tags along and needs a rifle.

Too many is when you exceed your ability to pay for the last one you bought.

And you might loose the ability to obtain another at any time due to political actions.

I believe in keeping spare parts for guns. Since I'm keeping all the parts, they might as well be assembled.

I have multiple simular. Such as xd 9 service xd9 compact. Xd 9 sub compact and xd40 service. The reason being that when I reach for a weapon, there isn't any thought involved. They all oporate and handle the same. ,pure muscle memory and habit. No thought.

If you have a reason, there you go.

Multiple hiding places and a standardized firearm would be one of them.

I would, but my friends made fun of me. I told them it wasn't that uncommon. They laughed.
