Why are rifles better than handgun ammo?

Because a rifle actually shoots ammo, and handgun ammo doesn't shoot anything. Handgun ammo really doesn't do much of anything at all.

You might be able to throw it really hard, but it would be better to have a gun with which to chamber and shoot it.

Rifle

A .30-06 180 grain bullet out of a 22" barrel will have 5X the energy of a .357 Magnum 180 grain bullet from a 6" barrel. You're talking 50 grains of powder vs 10 grains - a whole lot more gunpowder behind it and lot more barrel to channel that power. A rifle round like that will kill really large animals like moose, elk and bear authoritatively.

Shot out of the long barrel of a rifle even a pistol round gets way more impressive. Adding a lot more power, a lighter projectile and a longer barrel you gonna get a big difference.

So in conclusion, smaller cases that can hold smaller amounts of powder are less powerful than bigger cases that hold more powder? And longer barrel will accelerate bullets to a higher speed than a shorter barrel? I could be wrong but that is what I read.

I also thought bullet in general poke holes but I guess this is wrong too

Rifles dump more energy into targets. Plus a 5.56 round will only go thru one wall general because they are designed to break up and dump their energy into the first target it hits. Pistol rounds can send a 230 grain slug through several walls. That is not good when you can't see what's in the other side

OP, you asked a poorly phrased question without context and get butthurt when folks scoff? Welcome to the Calguns forums.

If your question was "Why is rifle ammo so much more powerful/popular/effective than pistol ammo, you are asking a question akin to "Why are aircraft faster than automobiles?" and folks are going to chime in with "Google is your friend" and "Welcome to Wikipedia" and other relevant comments. It's a question that a simple internet search would answer.

If your question was actually "Why do handguns suck?" then you must realize that you came to a public forum with a sophomoric inquiry along the lines of "Why are Chevys better than Fords?" and should expect a pretty sarcastic response in line with such a query.

So were you really looking for information? Then please rephrase your question. Were you just here to troll? Then you received the appropriate responses.
