Why are rifles better than handgun ammo? Like it says in the link below, handguns suck lol. Why are rifle rounds better?

Handguns serve their main purpose, it gives you a way to fight your way to your rifle.

Rifle ammo is better than pistol ammo because rifle ammo holds more powder.

I read a true story awhile ago that summed it up pretty well;

A Texas Ranger showed up to a city hall meeting with his duty pistol on his hip and one of the city council members saw it and asked him if he was expecting trouble. He quickly responded " no Ma'm, if I was EXPECTING trouble, I would have brought my rifle."
