My wife uses Isotoner driving gloves and I use either batting or mechanic gloves. We go to outdoor range so they are very useful in cold weather.

If it's cold or you are going to bust your knuckles on rocks, cactus, whatever then wear gloves.

If you just want to look cool compared to all the low speed high drag Fudd's then wear gloves.

In one situation no one will make fun of you, in the other situation you'll probably find a post on a forum about how 'some moron was wearing tactical gloves while shooting the 50 yard target off the bench'.

For the pleasurable shooting most people do as a pastime gloves are unnecessarily burdensome and hot.

I have a set of tactical gloves that sat unused for years until I shot my kimber right after adding a Kimber stainless mainspring housing. Other than that, if firing hundreds of rounds in a day, they can be useful.

I would say everyone should own at least one good pair of gloves. They do not need to be the so called "tactical" high speed operator kind. Mechanix brand gloves are excellent for use with a rifle or pistol. Note that they do also make a "tactical" pair or two. What makes them tactical? They're black. Think they got grey out now too and a coyote brown of sorts. Other than that they are the same as their non tactical counterparts.

But a good pair of gloves are great for general protecting of your hands, keeping your hands warm in colder weather, and helping to avoid burns from a hot barrel or hand guard.

I wear those blue rubber coated palm cotton gloves when it's cold and I'm hunting. They work great for shooting and then cleaning game afterwards.

In cold weather I use Air Force flight gloves. Warm enough and very flexible and tactile.

                    Like these:

Buy these Green colored Nomex aviation gloves at MG Pilot Shop. These Nomex extended length gloves are made with soft cowhide palms and reinforced stitching.

I tend to shoot quicker when I wear silk gloves.

I have used gloves when it was cold. ~20-30F.

I like Mechanix gloves. Cheap and common. Don't know if they count as "tactical" but they keep my girlie-man hands from getting scratched up.

I only shoot with gloves when it is under freezing. I can't stand the feeling of gloves mainly because almost everything I shoot has a very light trigger. Either my bolt actions or my AR, to my 1911 all have sub 2.5lb triggers. I just don't feel like I get the control I need with the gloves.

I've thought about getting a set of gloves without the fingertip on the trigger fingers, or just cutting the one off if need be. Only the last digit is what I need.

3 reasons on which I would wear gloves: because it's cold outside, because my palms are sweating more than usual (not a fun condition to have when it happens), or when my rifle handgaurd gets too hot on my AK (Hungarian with steel handguard).
