If the deputies weren't that worried about it, it is more likely the DA won't bother you either.
Sounds like OP is sincerely sorry for his faux pa and will not do it again.

OP, you are absolved of your sin.
    Here endith the lesson.

I don't think the deputy didn't see a problem, since he is writing a report to submit to the DA. I think the deputy saw a problem that was not going to continue, and did not feel the need to make an arrest or write a citation that would require booking at some point. Maybe they were busy, and he was the only one in the area, plenty of reasons as to why he made a decision to handle it the way he did. Assuming that he didn't see a problem because no arrest was made at the time is foolish.

The sheriff probabely gave you a break.

I think/hope he has learned his lesson, considering the number of appologetic posts from the OP. Shooting in the dark is one of the scariest things to do with a gun and we all know why.
I do not beleive in hunting down a man legally or otherwise, if there is no harm done. A warning is in order and that ends that. I think this is what the sheriff was doing. No need to be vengeful for the sake of whatever.

Hopefully you will not have much trouble over this and do not shoot into the dark again.

Yup, kiss off that CCW application. Boozes and guns don't mix, I mean it's like the second most important think right after making sure your weapon is unloaded. Add to that random shooting at a hillside with another house next door.

It is beyond my logic about what the heck you were even thinking.

Without reading all the posts what first comes to mind is you cannot discharge any deadly ewepon including archery within 150 yards of any occupied dwelling even if not on your property. Hope you are ok with this problem.

                        Gents,

One of the best lessons that I ever learned from my Training Officer was "Once you win the fight, it's time to stop fighting."

Remembering that sage advice has helped keep me out of a lot trouble when the adrenaline started to take over.

The OP's been contrite, he's admitted the stupidity of his actions, he seems ready to accept the consequences of those actions. He's asking what those consequences will likely be.

Let's please give him the best advice that can so that all can move along.
If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

The sheriffs came and talked to me and my wife told them the truth. They checked my weapons but never cited me. The sheriff said he was going to file his report with the DA and they will decide whether to file charges. Should I be worried? What's the worse that could happen.
Depends on the laws of your county and city. I would talk to a lawyer.

In some places, that is a separate offense. Like I said: talk to a lawyer.

My primary concern in putting together various facts from your posts, is that you said you were shooting at 10:00 P.M. at a mountainside a mile away. It may be unlikely that someone was downrange of you, but it is possible and given the time of night, you had no way to verify that your impact area was uninhabited.

BTW, I believe the probability of you being prosecuted is minimal. You and your wife cannot be compelled to testify against you, and it appears there are no other witnesses to your act.

Except it sounds like he already acknowledged it to responding officers who would have taken it down as evidence.... another reason to NEVER talk to police. I doubt they will prosecute either, but they could.
