I went several years ago with a group of friends. Cheap. Fun. Well, fun expect for the group indoctrination event which I just tuned out.

Would be better to find a top notch local course and avoid the crappy food and hotels.

You guys who say you "get to shoot free" need to look that word up in the dictionary.

Let's say you drive from Southern CA for a 4 day course.
        Hotel for 4 nights = 4x$85 = $340
        Gas = $80

        Total is $420.

I don't think you will find 4 days of instruction anywhere for $420. Now, a lot of couples/friends go together. The cost remains the same, so then for two people it becomes $210 per person for 4 days of instruction.

Membership is a one time fee. Diamond memberships can be had for $75 or so. Background check is $50 a year. Dining out is a wash as it is assumed one will eat even while at home. If one wishes to save money that bad then I guess one can cook dinner and breakfast and make sandwiches for lunch just like at home.

Next, you will be adding the cost of ammo.

A four day class generally runs me just over $400. This includes gas for the drive from the Bay Area, lodging, meals, and background check. I could save money be eating dinner out of the cooler like I do lunch but choose not to.

              Of course, that excludes ammo.

I have fun at the FS courses. I stay at the Nugget where they have the strangest buffet on earth.
99% crap but there will always be 1 item that will be worth the price of admission.
The classes are fun and instructive.I get to shoot a lot. I drop in on Armscor and see whats new, then check out the other gun stores in the area. I gamble at the Nugget where I usually break even.
                Its a vacation.

eta There's also a helluva good sushi bar/teppan restaurant in Pahrump as well.

Anyone remember news article about the local Fire Inspection day?

Apparently someone placed an upright disconnected fire hydrant that was directly above an underground non-potable water storage tank that just happened to be in front of the new club house?

A Fire Marshal, what do they know about Inspections?

I went a few years ago for 4 day handgun. I loved it. My wife and I are going back in April and staying in Pahrump. (Trying for distinguished graduate) About a 6 hour drive for us. The marketing is endless, but the emails go to junk automatically now. Many have extra memberships, you could probably score one closer to $100. To me, it's worth the drive and expense. Saddle West, here we come.

Do they give discounts at any of the nearby "ranches"?

I assume all of you ragging on Frontsight have never actually attended a course there, right? Fact is, Frontsight offers excellent training that can be had next to nothing. What you get with that is horribly annoying marketing material. Set up some rules in your email inbox and all you will be left with is the really good, inexpensive training.

Also, $250 is too much to pay for a membership. Diamond memberships are available from most existing members for $150.

This comes up now & then & it's gotta be a great place to train/shoot. I have a great friend that's always trying to sell or trade me one his many memberships & it's just a turnoff. Just being honest here..."Trade you a membership for this, how about one for that, I have 20"

Sometimes things like that just turn me away.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!
