Spot on! It was never about public safety or keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. It is about making the purchase of a firearm as onerous as possible. The rest of the country can buy a gun in 10 minutes but the government here doesn't want that. This means that if I were visiting in the LA area and wanted to buy that M1A they have on sale at Turner's, I will have to pass because I would need to schedule another trip down south to pick it up with a 30 day window.
Too much hassle so I say F it and they win--Another gun sale stopped.

p.s. How many felons stopped by the NICS/DROS have been prosecuted? Over 2 million sales have been stopped because NICS detected a felon but how many of these felons have been arrested?
