If it was actually an M1A1, that's an AW in Ca unless the stock is pinned open, IIRC

And they'd be ok with buying it back, no questions asked, no? (If it wasn't pinned.)

My sister had a friend In Sacto whose husband died and the lady didn't want his .380 Beretta in the house so she gave it to my sister to dispose of. My sister took it to the cop thing where they take in guns for destruction. This gun was basically brand new. The cop looked at it and gave it back saying she shouldn't destroy such a nice gun.

We would have elderly widows come into the station wanting to dispose of their husbands guns (as well as ammo). I would tell them to take their guns to an FFL and at least get some money for them. Most listened, but some just wanted to be done with them. Too bad...

We had a couple of girls bring in a pair of handguns a few years back to our station saying that they had belonged to their now deceased father and they didn't know what to do with them. They figured maybe we could use them or something.... We thanked them and then gave a few phone numbers for some local gun shops where they could at least get a little cash (the guns were Hi points or something; nothing fancy) if they were certain they didn't want to hold on to them.

A friend had a lady turn over a NIB Tec-9 once... She was positive she didn't want anything done to it or to sell it; she only wanted to get rid of it and have it destroyed

That is what decent people/cops would do. You gentelmen are great examples of that.

they are encouraging theft of firearms by doing this. The crack monkeys will be stealing them, turning them in for gift cards and trading the gift cards for more dope.

I agree, if they can't get you to turn them in, they can raise incentives for crooks to take them from you.
