As I said, I didn't get involved either way. I kept shooting as I had a limited amount of time today. However, as I wrote I did find it interesting that he was convinced that a bullet button was only needed during transportation no matter the configuration. (Also as mentioned others getting on him as well). Honestly I didn't even realize it was bolt action until cease fire as I was busy on my own stuff.

Interesting conversation on BB's.

Maybe since he didn't need a bullet button, and did not have an assault weapon in any way, shape or form, he had no idea wtf they were talking about. Maybe since they were completely talking out their rear end, he assumed they were talking about a gun lock or something. When jerkwads start accosting you on the range, it tends to be a little off-putting. Maybe he was just trying to indulge them instead of having to shoot them.
Since the entire premise of the conversation was based on BS, and not instigated by this fellow, we should give this guy a pass and benefit of the doubt for anything that he said.Last edited by SkyHawk; 11-17-2015, 10:43 PM.Comment

Now you sir, are no fun.
I love talking to people at ranges. It's usually a positive experience.
As of yet I haven't really met any of the nitpickers and nannygoats myself. Sometimes I'll comment on interesting weapons I see people with, much like I would if they had anything of interest.
Perhaps I'm just not tactical enough to attract the safety/legality nazis
Or perhaps it's because I like manually actuated weapons. And every magazine is a mag dump
But seriously. The only problems I ever have at public ranges are restrictive range rules and narrow lanes/booths. I've never had any problems with my fellow rangegoers, but I suppose I am in the minority. So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

Even more scary than someone who has been a member here since Oct 2011.
Needless to say several others jumped in to inform him that he was wrong, which he replied that he's been enforcing gun laws for decades and that none of them knew what they were talking about.. Not sure if he was lying about being a retired officer, but if he was little scary that he was so misinformed of the previous 15 years of laws around it. I hate the laws and want to seem them changed, but if people that are supposed to be enforcing them don't even know what they are how are we supposed to fix them?

The initial thread a bit too much info.... But a bolt gun is a bolt gun
Ok to use with any mag size one legally owns....Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Sigh, guess I should have left everything out except the "interesting part" in which he said BBs were only needed during transport. He did spend the time to break his rifle down and replace the mag release with a BB before leaving so obviously he believed that... I'll keep the posts short next time.NRA Patron Life MemberComment

That is not the interesting part, at all. The interesting part was the nanny state shooters trying to tell him he needed one! The interesting part was how the subject was even broached. Why are you defending these tools? I'm starting to get the feeling you were with them...Sigh, guess I should have left everything out except the "interesting part" in which he said BBs were only needed during transport. I still think it was an observation of a group of the ignorant.
The man, who didn't know the laws, and a group of onlookers, who also didn't know the laws but had a different misunderstanding and felt the need to assimilate him into their wrongness.
And the OP, an innocent bystander who is now being blamed for the ignorance witnessed on all sides. So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

I was gonna speculate that maybe he thought Bullet Button meant some kind of trigger lock, until this post.Sigh, guess I should have left everything out except the "interesting part" in which he said BBs were only needed during transport. What kind of bolt gun has a push-button mag release that accepts a BB?
Just curious.I meant, it is my opinion that...
