No, just my valid driver's license with my old address. As I recall, I brought a couple of utility bills, since I had never been to the Gun Room before, but they said they didn't need them.

http://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulin...ng-2001-5.html), licensees may accept a combination of valid government-issued documents to satisfy these identification document requirements. A valid government-issued photo identification document bearing the name, photograph, and date of birth of the transferee may be supplemented by another valid, government-issued document showing the transferee’s residence address.

Also, please refer to the June 2010 Federal Firearms Newsletter (http://www.atf.gov/publications/news...er-2010-06.pdf), page 3, “Valid Identification Document”, the September 1999 Federal Firearms Newsletter (http://www.atf.gov/publications/news...er-1999-09.pdf), page 3, “Required Identification Document”, as well as ATF Ruling 2010-6 (State of Residence) http://www.atf.gov/regulations-rulin...ing-2010-6.pdf.

ATF Ruling 2010-6 states in part,

“The term “identification document” is defined by 18 U.S.C. 1028(d)(3) as “a document made or issued by or under the authority of the United States Government, a State, political subdivision of a State . . . which, when completed with information concerning a particular individual, is of a type intended or commonly accepted for the purpose of identification of individuals.” The regulations, 27 CFR 478.11, define the term “identification document” as “[a] document containing the name, residence address, date of birth, and photograph of the holder and which was made or issued by or under the authority of the United States Government, a State, political subdivision of a State . . . which, when completed with information concerning a particular individual, is of a type intended or commonly accepted for the purpose of identification of individuals.” Identification documents include, but are not limited to, a driver’s license, voter registration, tax records, or vehicle registration. As explained in ATF Ruling 2001-5 (ATFQB 2001-4, 37), a combination of valid government documents may be used to satisfy the GCA’s State residency requirement..."

The CA "Brown Card" is not considered government issued, and therefore cannot be used for ATF purposes. The buyer will need to obtain a DMV printout from the CA DMV clerk/office in order to satisfy the government-issued requirement.

In addition, ATF does not have any jurisdiction over State laws. You should contact the appropriate State Attorney General’s Office or other appropriate State agencies to inquire about what requirements they may have in regards to their allowable documentation. A list of the State Attorney General’s Offices may be found in the internet at http://www.naag.org.

We trust this correspondence has been responsive to your inquiry. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact your local ATF Industry Operations Office. A list of ATF Office telephone numbers can be found at http://www.atf.gov/field.

Good info Marquand. So from that it seems like the brown card isnt good enough. Strange how a friend of mine did the exact same thing I did as far as using the brown card and a current PG&E bill. He had no issues whatsoever and after 10 days picked up his pistol so you can see where my confusion is coming from.
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"

Seems to me like OP got hosed but, I've never had a problem with brown card.

          Taken from CA.gov

The individual's residential address as it appears on his or her California Driver License or California Identification Card, or change of address attachment there of.

Would the "brown card" not be considered a change of address "attachment"? I would think that a new printed license or proper doc # would be stated as such?

I recently went to DMV to get a change of address and they gave me a brown card that they then stamped with the date and filled out my new info on. Talked to a friend of mine who had done the same thing who had also bought a pistol recently. The gun shop he went to took his change of address card along with the utility bill did the paperwork and he got his gun.
Today when I tried to use mine at the first gun shop, with a matching address utility bill, i was told that that cannot be accepted and will not work. I told them how a friend of mine had used the same thing did his paperwork and got his pistol with no problems. I was then again told they could not help me.
Same thing happened to me some year's back at Reed's. I didn't argue, just took my business to Sportsmen's Supply.

I'm not sure, but discussions about PPTs in Nevada might be relevant on a Nevada gun forum.
