Ruger Mark III disassembly

Hey guys, I am wondering if any of you know of an easy way to disassemble the Ruger Mark III?

I have both the Mark II and Mark III, but the III is giving me a lot of trouble. I can't even take out the main housing on the back.

The II came out easily and was assembled back easily as well.

Please let me know if you guys have any tips on this.

There are several youtube videos that show a good method for takign them apart, one is by nutnfancy and he installs a mk-ii trigger pack into the pac-lite 22/45.

The trouble I'm having is when I use the paper clip to take out the backing, it won't come out. It drops that back lever when I use the paper clip, but I can't pull out the housing. I am not sure why it's not coming out.

I use thin string. Metal may scratch that area.

There is a Ruger MK disassy. tool mentioned here sometime back.

I swear the disassembly difficulty was why Ruger came out with the SR22. I've had my MKII so long that I forget if it was difficult to disassemble when it was new; it's super easy now.

The magazine disconnect makes it a little trickier vs the MkII.

I just bought the Tandemkross Hammer Bushing to fix that issue.
My MkIII is very tight also.
Took some time to line it up just right to put back together.

Use a loop in a cable tie instead of the paper clip/screwdriver/marlin spike approach.

No reason to do it unless you are replacing parts though.

Blast all of the crud out and oil it back up afterwards.

Yep, I did the same when I had one. Then I got a nice Standard (it would be a MkI if it had target sights) and ended up selling the MkIII, I kinda regret that. The Standard was much better made.

The MKIII isn't as simple as a Glock, but people make you think it's a jig saw puzzle you will never get back together.

Watch a few videos and go slow. It's not that big of a deal.

Some come apart easier than others. After the lever comes all the way down, try putting a lot of upward pressure where the pin goes up into the barrel/receiver and see if that gives the clearance for the bottom of the housing to clear the opening.

If I understand you correctly, you are flipping open the thin latch with no problem but can't swing out the housing? If so, the answer probably lies with the internal lock. The lock may have vibrated to where it's not fully unlocked, but not enough to affect the firing of the gun. Assuming you have the key, cock the pistol, put the safety on to expose the lock hole, and turn the lock all the way to the left. If it turns at all, that's most likely your problem.

This is assuming you're following the proper procedure to begin with, meaning check for clear, put magazine in, cock pistol, squeeze trigger, then magazine out, before you pop the latch.
