There is a case working it's way through the courts right now that is trying to hack away at NFA laws. i have one supressor now, access to three others and am about to put another form on another one, these freaking things make shooting so much more enjoyable.

Having shot a number number of them, I can only hate the NFA that much more. They are generally just technically quiet enough to not need hearing protection but still pretty loud.

They're completely worthless for enhancing the "stealth" of a shooter in an urban area--as their opponents would claim the main reason for their ban. If you shot a suppressed AR inside your house, both neighbors on both sides of your house would know you shot a gun.

Their real practicality for Joe Civilian is hearing protection and they are very effective for that. If I lived in a free state, I'd own a few for sure.

You must have shot some leaky suppressors or did not have the right setup.

While a suppressed 556/223 will be loud due to the sonic boom, running subsonic ammo will keep it quiet enough to make it hard to notice. I don't use subsonic 556 ammo but suppressed subsonic 9mm out of a full auto AR sounds like a paintball gun.

A .22 pistol with a squirt of compressed air in the can is barely louder than the clicking sound of a ratchet wrench. My 9 year old loves shooting my SW MP22 pistol with a Spectre II on it as well as our full auto .22 AR's.

IF I shot any of my suppressed guns in my back yard none of my neighbors would know. Unless I invited them over to try, of course.

I looked into the history of Suppressors not too long ago.
Appears the restrictions on them came from The Great Depression era to keep the poor from hunting on rich peoples property.

          Classic.

now take a couple capfuls of water and put it in that suppressor! that will also make a difference.

I just use water, I don't like the wire pulling gel, both have their pro's & con's.

I've recently shot a match in UT with a suppressor on my rifle. Didn't have to use earpro all weekend which was awesome.

I did the distilled water method. It is easier to use a can of dust-off to get the oxygen out of the can for the first round pop noise reduction.

only some suppressors are meant to be shot wet.

if you want get a nose spray bottle and pop the top off (the ones you squeeze and it mists into the nose to clear your nose), you want the atomized water in the chambers to displace the O2. FRP is just the O2 burning off.

boyscouts released an article or something about how they shoot with suppressors to help not be such a disturbance to people around them as well as help with the noise level.
primer, powder, projecile, press, load, fire repeat!

It's also what Maxim marketed marketed them as when silencers were first sold on a large scale to the public. They don't silence a gun, but "silencer" is Isa 100% correct name for them.

I've shot a few Allen Engineering cans and a few YHM cans. With supersonic 5.56 loads, all were easily as loud as a .22 unsuppressed. That's definitely something my neighbors would hear if I shot it in my house.

You're supposed to use subsonic ammunition with suppressors. When using supersonic ammunition you hear the sonic boom that the projectile produces.

My main concern is if the legislature ever found out that suppressors are actually safety devices - they'd make them mandatory in an effort to add expense and hassle to legal shooting sports.

As far as neighbors hearing, yes definitely they will hear you firing all standard velocity rounds in 5.56 or x51. But not .300 Blackout or subsonic loads of popular military rifle cartridge.
In short it is very useful to fire with a can indoors. It is very practical firing indoors suppressed with between .22LR and .40S&W. Above that it is loud and a lot of smoke. There is youtube video of a guy with a collection firing inside of his home you can see it for yourself.
