I have also had to explain to friends there is a big difference between not being able to afford something and not wanting to spend the money on something.

My main vehicle is 8 years old and I don't feel the need to lease or buy a new car every few years. My home is paid for and my motorcycle is 13 years old and was purchased used. I don't have any children or a wife and I don't live beyond my means or purchase a lot of frivolous items for the most part so I do have a good amount of disposable income but I am judicious on how I spend it on guns and ammo.

Dude, you're rich! My daily driver is 20 years old and I own several scopes that are each worth more than my '95 Camary. My truck is 9 years old. I live in a trailer in the woods and have a little less than half the guns you do.

Home is modest and in a sucky area. One of the reasons I'm moving eventually besides guns I can get a much better house than in CA. Also I own very few scopes.

So you're asking why we want them, but this post about prices makes it pretty clear that you want them too, you just don't want to pay the price. Boo-freaking-hoo.

Uhlan said it well, I don't want a particular gun just because it's off roster. Certain models that I want may have (or more likely, lack) particular features, and they happen to be off roster.

When I bought my M&P 9 FS it was "Safe" and on the roster.
Suddenly at the witching hour of a dark December night while sitting quietly in my safe, it morphed into a bloodthirsty killing machine. It is now "Off Roster"

Evidently it also became worth about $100-$150 more... OP wanna' buy it?

When I decided to get a Shield, I SSE'd the off roster one because I wanted the controls (No thumb safety) to match my full size, plus I figure if there's a round chambered my gun should be able to fire, even if I'm changing mags at the time. Also, I was born with two perfectly good LCI's built right into my head, and a bunch more right there on my hands. I don't need a big red billboard whose word I wouldn't rely on to tell me my gun is loaded.

So OP which off roster gun is it that you want but don't want to pay the going price for?
Too many hobbies, Too little time.

          Mind you, I'm 5'7", 180, with a visible Ab...

There's a distinct difference. Thread fail.
^^ yup. The number of models/variants that exist ON the roster, is a TINY % of those that exist in the market as a whole. Therefore, it is statistically likely that if someone pursues the acquisition of guns, they will eventually want one that is in the OFF-roster majority.
