Amazon was quick AreWeFree! It came set up for a Glock so I had to change the insert but then it fit perfectly. It's not dark enough to test it outside or even inside yet, but it's damn bright. Flashed myself then was seeing a spot for quite a while earlier. Haha

I recommend the tlr-3.

Maybe you guys have dead batteries or something. The tlr3 is enough to wash out my vision if it's directed at a wall or such too close. It's enough to give a hefty spot and night-blind across my apartment...

Tlr-1 as a shotgun or rifle light, definitely. As a pistol light, not so much.

You are doing it wrong. You wouldn't want to walk around your house pointing your gun at that level. You should be at the low ready. You don't need to point your light directly at where you think someone might be standing to see them.

Try pointing at a 45 degree angle. A good STRONG light will be strong enough to illuminate the entire room or hallway without accidentally point your loaded gun at a family member.

And you wont get flash back from bright walls or mirrors.

Tony, I believe you misunderstood my intent. I was only speaking for the intensity of the light, demonstrative purposes. I know to not go full retard, although I do use a high ready. I don't have anyone but the wife so it's not a concern right now, but I'm still not flagging the whole place, it's more like a 60*. Either way, unless you have a very large house, go outside a lot (pistol not a good choice for outside, typically!), or have poor eye sight, IMO the tlr1 is too much. Put it on a rifle or shotgun for use on the property, awesome choice. Just too much for pistol range.

YMMV, and it's just my 2 cents from what I've found. Being that 125lm is about where you will start to blind yourself.

I've tested my X300 Ultra in my house with white walls and I didn't find it too bright when held at the low ready. Maybe the light pattern is different from Streamlight.

In any event, I hope nobody ever has to use the light.

The phone makes the hotspot seem worse than it is. This thing lights up everything, even your peripherals which is great. When turning the light off it takes a quick moment to adjust, but I find that to be normal with some lower powered bike lights that I tried.
The HL, when shining across the street, does seem more than adequate to mount to an AR or other rifle. I'm planning on keeping it on my handgun though.

Only downside is having to get a new holster that fits the light

1) If you are going to mount a light on your handgun.. Resist the temptation to use the light as a "flashlight" as you walk around your house..
a) it identifies your position and makes you a very bright target.
b) It will have you covering things and possibly people you should not be sweeping with a muzzle
2) If you are going to use the gun for self defense in your home why do you need a holster?
3) A weapons light is not a good idea on a Concealed carry gun... just get a good set of night sights and train to build muscle memory

Why wouldn't you want one, besides concealability? If you can conceal it with no issues, then what's the deal? It may not be practical in all situations, or conceal able in all clothes, but if you CAN why NOT? I see it as a force multiplier, and consensus seems to agree. Forget "safety" for a second, and think that you likely won't have time to pull a light from your pocket or belt. You pull that gun, and that's all you have. You may not even have a chance to flick it on, before rounds need to go downrange, but I think you're crazy if you'd rather not have a light at all than have it and not need it. If I have to draw in SD, I have bigger issues on hand than worrying about flagging (why not try, say... not pulling the trigger on a non-threat?). I'd prefer to not flag anyone or anything, but if I need light that bad, it's going to happen (trigger control!).

50% of the day is dark... That's a lot of not being able to see well.

Tl;dr... carry a light if you can, the benefits outweigh the risks (none that I can imagine).

Edit: I like the outdoor pattern on the HL. What's the effective range to illuminate a bad guy?
