Uber Driver robbed at gunpoint after Uber bans guns.

Apparently the guy who got in the car didn't understand the policy applies to both drivers AND passengers...

On Wednesday, an Uber driver in Queens was robbed by a man who allegedly got in his car, pointed a rifle at him, and demanded his money.

Sorry if this is a dupe.

        Ha! ... classic!

“to make sure riders and drivers feel comfortable.”

EDIT: “to make sure robbers feel comfortable.”

Not sure about that story. The way I understood how Uber works, the drivers do not handle money. That is all negotiated and paid via smart phone. Uber takes their cut, and pays the driver, so the driver should not be carrying any cash. Not supporting the no guns rule, just say'n I see FUD in this story.

If I was an Uber driver I would be carrying cash . . . because I am always carrying cash.

Could be a case where the perpetrator was simply looking for a robbery target that they knew would be unarmed . . . and was aware of the new policy. I imagine the drivers still carry their own personal cash/credit cards, watches, etc. on them when they drive.

I dunno about you, but I tend to carry cash around with me. Uber drivers are now safe targets, because to be one you have to disarm yourself. Then you get to let people you dont know into your car. Super smart!

ETA: While being armed will not ensure your not going to encounter someone who wants your money, or even that you will be in a situation where you could defend yourself even while armed, being unarmed removes any possibility and entices bad people to do bad things they might not otherwise attempt to do.

                    This.

Also, this article is only relevant if the driver had a ccw and left it at home because of the new policy. Even if he had a ccw, getting a gun pulled on him from behind, it still may have ended the same way. Apart from those things that could have added more relevance to the article, it probably would have happened anyway.

                      Dis-agree-

An Uber driver recently successfully defended themselves with a firearm. Had Uber embraced this act then the likelihood of future occurrences is diminished.
HOWEVER, Uber instead chose to announce publicly that they were disarming all drivers as matter of policy. This can only be interpreted one way-

                      OPEN SEASON on uber drivers..

Also, lack of CCW is not a dis qualifier. I know many people across this great land who carry a gun every day of their lives because it is their RIGHT to do so.

Especially because they need name and credit card info to be a passenger. I suppose the card could be stolen, but if it was, the robber took the low yield route of stealing 60 bucks instead of running up charges on the card.

Which is why you are not an uber driver. I always carry cash too, but I am not an Uber driver. If I were, I doubt I would carry much cash.

Just because a company states a "no gun" policy, doesn't mean the drivers actually follow the policy. The "gun man" had no more certainty of a no gun situation than just picking someone at random.
I can tell you that if I had a ccw, I wouldn't care what uber said. When would it ever become an issue? If it did, i would rather deal with uber management than being dead.
