They have a Les Baer 1911 in their rental stock. I shot one once. After that, my wallet got VERY light as I ordered one thru CJ.

Reed's makes TM seem like the indoor range equivalent of a truckstop restroom. Only catch is their PPT and storage policies(not that TM is any better, simply do your PPT's elsewhere since there are plenty of other shops. As for the storage, just make sure you can pick it up immediately).

Yep, just found out about it yesterday when I met up with an older guy to buy a couple of old shotguns. I am disgusted. I had to check Calguns to see if anyone else was outraged over their new policy. I've spent thousands of dollars at Reed's in 20+ years and I will not spend another nickel there. The employee there was very nice and clearly he didn't set the policy so I was very polite to him but they just lost a good customer. You literally get ONE day to pick up, otherwise they nail you for $100 with this 'gotcha' new policy.

Too bad, I really enjoyed Reed's for many, many years but I will not support a business that resorts to such predatory practices. Like most businesses, sometimes you have to do the low margin jobs to service your customers, you can't just push those aside and only pick the high margin jobs. Apparently the owners of Reed's don't quite grasp that concept.

I wonder how tightly they enforce that.
I was talking to some of the counter guys when I was doing a PPT and they said they had people leave guns there for months. Astounding, I know but not everyone is as eager to pick up their guns as I am. Anyway, these guns take up space to no benefit of the Reed's business so those are the ones they are targeting.
Anyway... Has anyone actually been dinged on this fee?

Yup. $100 due on day 12. Making money on the back end.

They have the best AC of the local ranges IMO.

I even agreed to pay 100 if I dont pick up and they still wouldn't take a pistol with a threaded barrel.

Isn't it still illegal to have a threaded barrel on a pistol in this state? I would hope for their sake that any FFL would turn down a ppt that has anything remotely illegal about it.

I like Reeds, it's a great place to shoot and shop. The sales guys are really friendly and they know their stuff.

That $100 thing....I don't think it's anything they are trying to get rich over. The guy I talked to said it's really just helping to keep their ppt stuff flowing better. Sounds simple enough if you can't deal with a transfer that requires you to pick up your gun in ten days, just go somewhere else that is more convenient for you.

No. If you go through the flowchart, that's only an issue after you've determined that the pistol is semiauto, has a detachable mag, and doesn't meet some exemption(I can't remember if any of the listed olympic pistols have threaded barrels or not).

The fact is that Reeds is a diamond in the rough in the bay area. If you don;t like Reeds then I don;t know what to say, frankly. Maybe it's not them, but you.

I agree, one of the better shops I the area with class. We went to Reeds yesterday to browse around a bit. The guy we talked to was very patient and helpful. Never had an attitude. They have a great variety of pistols for rent and a few rifles. They have 2 Les Baers (Premier II and TRS) and a Wilson Combat CQB. One of the employees was watching the range and keeping an eye on everyone.

They also had quite a few Les Baers for sale and at least 4 Wilsons for sale.

Folks who frequent Reeds should be aware of their ridiculous PPT policy. See discussion here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1033281

I still shoot at the range occasionally (less than I used to), but I am boycotting the shop side until they reverse their PPT policy and I would recommend you consider doing the same.
