Do you shoot with both eyes open with scope?

I just watched American Sniper today (great movie by the way) and was surprised to find out that the main character aims with his scope with both eyes open. Is this a popular (or even a standard) way of shooting with a scope? I thought almost everybody used the scope with one eye closed.

Yes it is standard. Look up the Bindon Aiming Concept.

I shoot with both eyes open. From short range (Aimpoint) to LR (28 power glass). It just seems more natural. I do the same with a spotting scope.

Grew up learning to shoot with both eyes open and used the same technique in the military.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

Right eye open behind glass or irons. Left eye squinted a bit to occlude vision.

The reason I shoot that way is because I'm right handled but left eye dominant. Both open gives me fuzzy sight pic.

Shotgun, I shoot both eyes open. You don't "aim" a shotgun, you "point" it.

Different stroke for different folks for different reasons. Wish I could shoot a rifle with both open. Much wider field of view.

Being cross eye dominant makes it tough for sure. I know a couple cross eye dominant guys and they have just learned to shoot left handed, which isn't necessarily bad either.

Never yet had a dead critter complain that I didn't have both eyes open when I shot it. Been doing it that way for over 50 yrs. Some old dogs are just too set in their ways for new tricks.

No, I only use both eyes open for aimpoint on AR.

I shut/squint my left eye due to being cross eye dominant. It kind of sucks but works for me.

Yes both eyes open, pistols, rifles, scopes, sights, always both open. I'm right eyes dominate but for some reason it's actually somewhat hard to even close my left eye all the way and leave just my right eye open. It's much easier to close my right eye. seriously thought. That's not why I shoot with both open. I shoot with both open because I can see much more clearly, and you also have full peripheral vision with both eyes open. It might be more of a habit for me, I've been shooting that way for decades. I was taught as a young kid to close my weak eye. I remember figuring out that I could see better and shoot better with both open and it wasn't until years later I found out that's the best way to shoot is with both eyes open.

Pistol is both open. As you raise it to line of sight, put it in front of dominant eye. No requirement that you keep the two blocks of wood together.

I always shoot one eye closed. I can't focus otherwise, like my eyes bounce around looking at random stuff and can't settle on anything in particular. I also have trouble with binoculars, I can never seem to focus or space them correctly and never get a clear picture with both eyes. I just use them one eyed.
