I can keep both eyes open while using an ACOG, but other than that , i close one eye. I try to keep both open while shooting handguns, but before i know it, im closing my left eye.

First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.
Next thing you know, you think "Deliverance" is a love story.

I have an astigmatism and simply cannot shoot anything besides 1x red dots with both eyes open.

Is there a trick, or custom prescription I can obtain to correct my vision? Seems like I could have my vision corrected for the distance to my front sight or SomethinG. scopes are fine with one eye closed, but with both open it cants everything slightly and I see double.

Hmmm, so I guess having astigmatism makes it harder for you to shoot with both eyes open? I didn't know that. I have astigmatism myself.

My optometrist prescribed me lenses that can correct astigmatism, so I think you can correct that. As for me, I never wear my glasses though, even when shooting, so I'm always dealing with astigmatism

I shoot mostly with both eyes open, but on occasion, when trying to shoot very tight groups with match grade guns, I will close the non-dominant eye. Better concentration on the front sight alone is more valuable in such situations than the depth perception required for practical shooting.

Yes I can and have but I don't, it just doesn't work for me.

I cannot do it and it doesn't help when you're cross eye dominant.

I shoot with both eyes open in almost all cases, scope and red dot sights always.

This is where I'm at. Hard to break habits that are decades old! Doing lots of dry firing and site acquisition at home with hand guns while watching tv. I've nailed lots of bad guys!

I'm not very strongly right eye dominant and I find that if I'm in the scope for too long (long string of fire) I start losing focus on the crosshairs. At that point I'll either close my left eye or drape a cloth over, cant a hat, or something else to occlude my left eye.

Also if I'm looking through a spotting scope for a long time keeping my left eye closed is a bit of a strain, so I'll go back to occluding my left eye with a cloth or hat or something.

Plus then I look like a super sniper and people automatically know I'm awesome.

No because after a few hours of shooting I get a head ache. Then again I get a head ache no matter what/how I shoot

I'm not being ambushed to need full view, so I don't worry about being "tactically aware".

Shoot how your comfortable and leave it at that. Also, stop watching lame movies.

Watch shooter instead. Much better movie.

Both eyes open on 1-4x magnification, I tend to use one eye on higher magnification.
