Not another Marketplace rant..

Yes, but then the Internet was invented. I have been buying and selling vintage fountain pens online for 15 years, and nobody has ever asserted that it was necessary for good manners to take down a price for an online posting after the pen was sold.regardless if one is for it or against it, buyer's privacy is considered to be a purchased right in many collectibles circles and it is considered to be respectful to the buyer for the seller to remove and conceal the selling price from public view after the sale is completed. My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

I have this rant too, but I also am an offender. I usually remove the price after sale to protect my buyer's privacy, because the person who bought it can easily be seen from looking at my iTrader 'left for others' tab, or the buyers iTrader feedback received history. The buyer may want to sell it later and not want others to know what he paid, he may not want his wife or Gf to know what he paid etc, and I respect that.
It would be nice if we could leave "anonymous for buyer & seller" 'sold for' prices in a running thread somewhere, with a way to prevent people from sabotaging it. If something like that could be integrated with iTrader it would be slick.
'Sold for' prices are a commodity and some people run websites just to sell information like we are seeking. And to throw it away like we do is a shame but we don't have a good system to protect all interests right now...Last edited by SkyHawk; 05-08-2015, 7:26 PM.Comment

This is also a good point. I rarely sell a gun for the listed price. I expect a bit of haggling and in over half the sales I have done there has been a partial trade as well making the listed price kind of moot.Yes, I am an electrical engineer.

I'll leave the last asking price. I won't give the final negotiated price. I just feel that's not right to the other party, even if their name isn't known.
But, no, we don't need a rule about it. If you want to be helpful to people doing research in the future, leave the price. If you want to be a richard about it delete all the info.
BUT I see no harm in an "interested buyer" quoting the original listing when they ask as question. Unfortunately for the OP, the original asking price remains forever. Too bad .. that's just the way the forum works

If you want to sell a firearm (or anything else for that matter) know what you have & price accordingly ~ The market will either support or reject your assessment. And as stated earlier, it doesn't cost you anything to PM someone for info on their final sale price....WTB: S&W 617 4" 10 shot Pre-LockComment

I wasnt asking that people list what the actual deal was. Just to NOT remove the original asking price or price drops. Specifically removing the asking price or subsequent price drops almost seems like guilt.
I have never had anyone ask about my sales after I mark it ***SOLD***
It would be nice to scan a few ads and get an idea of value/market price rather than PM-ing guys asking for information.
And I'm just talking about guns. Low value stuff like holsters, box of ammo, magazines...
Like I said, when I want to sell something, it's to move it. I want to know what everyone else is selling for, then sell it cheaper.Comment

In addition to the buyer privacy issue, I view a listed price as an "Ask" price. If you no longer have the exact item... you have no right to list an Asking price.
In short, Asking price is already bad data, since many (if not most) items will sell in private with a lesser Offer and/or trade. Leaving it would just muddy the waters.Comment

"No right?" The item is marked "SOLD", you can list whatever you want.In addition to the buyer privacy issue, I view a listed price as an "Ask" price. If you no longer have the exact item... you have no right to list an Asking price.

I think it's a function of people taking it in the shorts on sales and not wanting to be embarrassed.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. Meh, I would rather delete the entire thing instead of getting pm's from people asking if I still have something for sale. That's why I completely delete the context and change it to spf so you have no idea what I sold. "Guilt" has nothing to do with it but if it makes you feel better to think that, carry on lol.

He buyer has no right to privacy. Hell, I could change the title to "Morthrane paid $1000 for a Gen4 G19 in FDE!!!!"In addition to the buyer privacy issue, I view a listed price as an "Ask" price. If you no longer have the exact item... you have no right to list an Asking price.
