Can't speak for everyone but I delete it because I got sick of marking them as sold and leaving the price only to have 5 guys over the next 6 months message me asking if it is available or just sending me an offer for half the price I already sold it for

If I started selling at a high price and intended to go down if needed or get a decent offer, I wouldn't want anyone to see a pattern to this...this also gets a lot of potential buyers to get in the habit of always offering less regardless of the price.Comment

I think that's page one of calguns buying, offer half and say "I have cash"
It's not dependent on listing a sale price, its a function of a room fool of goofballs who all think they are supreme bargainers.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. This is exactly what happens to me I would get PM's on ads that were over a year old and my ads would say SOLD. People would still send offers or want to know if I still had it. I got tired of the constant e-mails on stuff that was already sold so now I just delete/erase the entire ad. Works great now lol.Comment

I know I do this because I'll still get PMs. Even if I make sold I'll still get low ball offers so I'll just remove the price. Gunbroker is great for checking prices and selling to. Sold a pof .308 on gunbroker. It was my first time. I had it listed for a couple months here and I got low ball after low ball. Put it on GB and it sold right away for what I wanted. Best 30.00 fee I ever paid. From time to time, I search the marketplace to get an idea of what current prices are. For both buying and selling items. I'd say at least 75% of the time, the price has been deleted if it has been sold.
Just now I did a quick look to price gauge a rifle and most of the listings had the prices deleted.
I've, personally, never done this. I always leave my listed price and sometimes list what it actually sold for. I know at least one reputable site states that prices must be left in the ad after selling.
Anyone else bothered by this? Has this site ever considered making this a rule for the marketplace? or at least a suggestion to sellers?Lions not sheep.

I started changing my prices to sold because even thought it said sold in the title, I would still get PM's asking if the item or firearm was still for sale. This happened quite a few times so I just started removing the price so there was absolutely no doubt it was sold."You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend. I've seen other forums require the seller to leave the price up after the item sells. It does benefit the forum's community since it leaves a record of what items have sold for in the past.
Since our Marketplace has the strict "No thread crapping" rule, requiring prices to remain posted would help the newbies who bother to research firearm costs before they buy from another Calgunner.
I leave the price, but put a strike through it, and then put a SPF or SOLD next to it in bold, red text.
Gunbroker's finished auction prices don't reflect California's handgun roster premium, though.Last edited by Gryff; 05-08-2015, 5:11 PM.My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

regardless if one is for it or against it, buyer's privacy is considered to be a purchased right in many collectibles circles and it is considered to be respectful to the buyer for the seller to remove and conceal the selling price from public view after the sale is completed.Comment

I usually go and delete the entire thread and replace the title and post with SPF because I hate getting PM's a year later asking if something is still for sale.Originally posted by barrageThat's because Excelsior threads are like toilet bowls. And that's reason #2 I delete prices. As a buyer, I always appreciate it when a seller makes our agreement details private.regardless if one is for it or against it, buyer's privacy is considered to be a purchased right in many collectibles circles and it is considered to be respectful to the buyer for the seller to remove and conceal the selling price from public view after the sale is completed.
With respect, I think the sellers convenience and buyers privacy trump any benefit the lack there of might offer an uninvolved 3rd party."This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." - Elmer DavisComment

^^^This! Requiring a price to be listed after the sale is moot.
