I've never had a problem with Retting. I've browsed there, bought new guns from them and have also done transfers without any hassles from them. I do agree that when they get busy, the stress levels are higher and the workers get grumpier. But that's with any service sector though. I think their employees are fairly knowledgeable as far as their products. I wouldn't go into a gun store and expect them to know all the firearms or firearms related laws, that's up to us consumers to know before we even walk in to the gun stores. I think Retting is still one of the better gun stores here in the LA area. Good selection and knowledgeable staff. I won't even get into Turner's....

I've had a bit of trouble with M.B.R. but also some good experiances.
They took 1/2 hour to show me the guns I wanted to look at when I was shopping for a good 9mm a while back.
And when I bought my SKS from them it went smoothly.
However I went in on a weekend one time and stood by the large calibre revolvers for .45 minuites trying to make eye contact with my wallet in my hand (had $1000 cash that I was going to spend on a .454 Raging Bull)
but they didnt come over and took care of customers who were a little better dressed right as they walked in the door.
so i walked around trying to get some help... after another 15-20 min of trying I got fed up, put my wallet back in my pocket and left.
So... basicly dont go in there on weekends or holidays.Comment

I happen to really like that hoodie....
I had it made up before you could get punisher skull stuff at hot topic, AND It matches the motorcycle that I built (the one the punisher rode in warzone #2)
I have nice stuff too, I just dont wear it when I'm going to handle greazy cosmoline/breakfree covered thunder sticks.Comment

Where did you hear Alex left? He's still around....just went to Shot show. He's just not out on the floor as much....
All great people. Hard to find a gun store these days with really knowledgeable people....and if the guy you are talking to doesn't have an answer for you, he will get it from someone there who does.
I've been going to Rettings for 15+ years now. They are all great to deal with and one of the last true gun stores around. Many of their prices are really competitive (espeically on Springfields as they are one of their largest dealers....I asked about a Springfield MC Operator the other day...they had 15 in stock!). Other stuff, yeah, $10 or $20 more....but I gladly give them my money to keep them around....not to fall to the wayside like so many others before (B&B, Pony Express, Cities Armories, RNJ....)
Weekends can be somewhat chaotic, but as long as you are polite and reasonable, I've never seen them be any less than the same....Comment

Is it true that back in "the day" there was fully auto toys hanging all over the place?.................... Was the place to go in LA.
I bought a WWII Enfield (.303 British) there about 1964 for $15, an unfired 1895 Chilean Mauser (7 X 57) in 1966 for $35 and an unfired 1948 Venezuelan Mauser (7 X 57) in 1968 for $65. Still have them all.
As I recall, 30-06 WWII corrosive ammo sold for $6/100, 7 X 57 Spanish Civil War corrosive ammo sold for $4/100.
You could browse their racks all day without being bothered. It was more fun than reading comic books in the magazine section of the corner drug store when I was a kid in the 40s.Comment

I've always had good luck and been treated well at Rettings. (I'm in my 40's, if that makes any difference.)
Occasionally it's take a while to get someone to help, but that's been when they've been really swamped.
I've seen them be very courteous and patient with people who were being quite rude back to them. Like a woman who came in to buy a gun, expecting to just walk out with one... and was very pissed when they explained the process to her. She was even more pissed when she failed the HSC test and yet still refused to take the time to purchase or read the handbook (as was recommended to her several times). If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough guns.
People need to remember that the same guys who wrote the 1st Amendment, also wrote the 2nd Amendment... and for the same exact reasons.Comment

Same experience. I was looking for a Barsto BS40 and they had it. Gave me the price over the phone and I went down and started DROS. No problems, the young guy who helped me was friendly.NRA Endowment Member sigpic

Rettings can seem unfriendly when they are very busy. They get swamped a lot. You just have to be patient and wait your turn. I've found the people working there to be pretty friendly and helpful when it hasn't been crowded.
As for prices, Rettings usually seems to be with in $20-30 of Turners prices on most stuff.Comment

Not.................
.................... When I was there (64-69). Lots of new and surplus semi-autos, but no full auto. As I recall, a new manufacture M-1 Carbine sold for $65, new Italian M-14 type rifles sold for around $100.

I purchased one gun from Retting several years ago. It seemed like a good deal, but I soon found out I over paid by 20-25%. OK no biggy. But, later I made special arrangements for an FFL to FFL (Retting) transfer then for Retting to DROS the gun to me. Everything was great until my FFL and I arrived at Rettings and "the owner" decided to denie the transfer. His reason was that he sold the gun in question. That would have been fine, except we had made the arrangement with his "manager" prior to driving there. My FFL friend had other products in his hands to purchase, but after pleading our case and being denied, we both walked away without purchasing anything, getting our transfer denied and vowing never to buy anything from Retting in the future. Bad business people and bad businesses should not be used regardless of their being on the endangered list.Comment
