Out of curiosity, how old are you? I purchased my first gun at Rettings when I was 18 and have hated that place ever since. There, service sucked; other places are much better. They treat younger people like sh-t there (older folks too, but they definitely have a disdain for young gun enthusiasts). The service has however gotten a little better and more customer friendly over the years. Still, I don't like that place and they only seem to be customer friendly if you are an old regular or explicitly state, I am buying a gun today, please sell me one. Some employees are better than others, though.Originally posted by DiabolusService absolutely stinks at this location. This is one of the worst stores I have ever been to. The majority of the people who work their are some of the most anti-social people I have ever met.
I refuse to do any business with them. I hope word gets around and people take their business to the internet or other stores in the So. Cal area.

I just went into Valley Guns here in Bakersfield at lunchtime trying to find a box of Nosler 6.5mm 100 grain BT bullets. As I stood in front of the reloading supplies for 5 minutes looking I could hear two employees shooting the breeze with one other customer about haircuts and the third employee was sitting with his back to the customer area staring at the rifle rack.
No one greeted me whan I came in, asked me if they could help me so I just left. It's no wonder I order everything over the net.Frank

What is the price range of rettings, I've never been there but I hear that their stuff will cost you a small fortune.
I've been to a few places, some of em are an *insert word for backend*, but if they have something I want... I can put up with it.Originally posted by KestryllThe volume of blood necessary to achieve erection would cause you to either pass out or if you didn't and managed to maintain an erection you would likely die from lack of oxygen to the heart and brain.Originally posted by ivanimalJust be glad you are not his next door neighbor. I am sure there are "good tunes" flowing out the window. I am imagining a cop car pulling up at 1:30 AM asking "Are you having a party?" and Bundo sayin "Nope just me and the BG's"

I bought my first gun at Rettings when I was 21, I am 29 now and still get the same level of bad service (still see the same people working!). You are correct about the service getting better, a few of them are nice, but the majority of them are pricks. I have been told several times that they will not be doing PPT's because it was busy in the store; there were two people in the store at the time and they were just browsing the used section.
The prices for the firearms are not competitive. The next closest store is Turners, they usually have them beat on everything, and they are friendlier.Last edited by Diabolus; 06-29-2006, 5:22 PM.Comment

I've been to Rettings, and they didnt really treat me bad, they were just kinda indifferent to my presence. They are a bit pricey though, but not as bad as Western Auto, in Bell. That has got to be the most expensive gunshop in SoCal. 975 for a USP45 with 1 mag. Extra mags are 75. I once asked why Colt 1991's were an even grand there, and the guy said that Colt was out of business, and werent making any more civilians. I told him Turners had them for 730, and he told me to go buy it at Turners. Which I did, and havent been there since.L.A. County

Refusing PPTs is generally illegal I believe, DOJ may want to hear about that. I have been to Rettings many times, attitudes can be a bit sucky but main reason I don't go is high prices though I like the used long gun racks where you can browse w/o having to ask to see them. Once in a great while there I see an ok deal on some sort of ammo or knife or something but rarely a gun. Had a friend get 3 guns out of there at fair prices and he was old too!
As for Western Auto, they could care less about your business. They have a captive audience of Mexicans that due to ignorance or poor service or racism at Turners or language barriers ends up buying guns there at incredible markups. Example, Baby Eagles at around $650.
The owner of the gun concession is Big Daddy Roths kid BTW. Lets just say due to poor service there and ignorance and shady dealings going on there I will never spend another dime there and I would only advise a trip there if you need a good laugh. I did manage to snag a couple of ok deals there but I seriously do not reccomend going there, you will regret it, I promise you.
If Turners would make a drive to improve advertising and have a Spanish speaker at their stores with a large Hispanic population base they would put Wester Auto under most likely..22short .22lr .22mag .25acp .32acp .32H&Rmag,.35rem .30carbine

Yeah, I stopped shopping at Canyon Sports in Martinez because they refused a PPT. Said they only did them on weekends, though I was refused on a weekend previously. I was really pissed and almost called the DOJ but I actually like the owner Ron, though most of his employees are complete ********.Originally posted by MoonclipRefusing PPTs is generally illegal I believe, DOJ may want to hear about that.
Funny thing is I was going to buy an O/U that day and I believe the other party was going to buy something with his newfound cash as well. Oh well, he lost out on at least a couple grand of sales which ended up happily going to Irvington Arms who appreciates his customers. In fact, doing PPTs through him last year also ended up with me buying three guns from him last year too.
I guess some shops feel they can pick and choose their business.Comment

I'm very close to buying a S.A. 1911, and Rettings prices are better than Turners and the customer service was if not better, at least the same.the employees I talked to there(rettings) were nice too.
Maybe I went there without any pre-concieved notions, expecting to be treated like ****, I wasn't.
I also wasn't ignored....Comment

I believe he wrote, "There, service sucked." Meaning at that location, comma, the service sucked.
In regards to Rettings, the pony-tailed guy, Doug, IIRC, is a decent fellow. I'm a fairly young guy and he's the only employee I've ever dealt with.Certified RagaholicComment
