Just found out about the shooting. Stevie is a great guy. Just saw him last month at a family wedding. Talked to a family member tonight and Steve is going back in for surgery tonight. He is not out of the woods yet. Mexican doctors did a piss poor job of stitching him up, tons of internal bleeding. He was shot with a .22 that bounced around and did a bunch of internal damage.
Cameron Steele really helped get him out of s-hole called Mexico. There is a cover up going on from the Mexican police, the Mexican doctors, and Score.
This was NOT a hunting accident. Steve was conscious until he got back in the States. Steve is a good man with a young family and we are pulling for him.Comment

Robbing, pirating, and boobytraps are nothing new to Baja 1000 but this is the first time I've heard of someone intentionally getting shot. The gunman was in camo, definatley pre-meditated. A number of people die each year during the race, all spectators that get too close. These guys will actually try to touch buggys, truggys, trophy trucks while they are doing 80 mph plus, like it's some kind of game. I just checked RaceDezert and there's nothing about this incident but that dosen't suprise me. The last thing SCORE needs is bad press and teams pulling out of the race because SCORE can't gurantee the race team's saftey. The police down there are sketchy at best, from TJ down to Cabo. I havent been south of TJ for a few years but all my run-ins from the policia in TJ have resulted in me loosing my money to get drunk friends out of the back of a cop car. My friend went down to pre-run/watch the 1000 last year and he took my advice. Out of the four credit cards he had, he reported 3 stolen before the trip. He took the 3 invalid cards with him. He got into two binds to the point where they were going to take his Tacoma and leave him with a backpack in the destert and in Ensenada. He gave the police the cancelled cards, said they had $10k limits, and they let him go.Comment

More risk? I think there should be more dangerous racing sports
Kinda like a destruction derby race where speeds top 80mph
The carnage, could you imaging the money that sport would draw?Originally posted by KestryllThe volume of blood necessary to achieve erection would cause you to either pass out or if you didn't and managed to maintain an erection you would likely die from lack of oxygen to the heart and brain.Originally posted by ivanimalJust be glad you are not his next door neighbor. I am sure there are "good tunes" flowing out the window. I am imagining a cop car pulling up at 1:30 AM asking "Are you having a party?" and Bundo sayin "Nope just me and the BG's"

My wife, 2 kids (ages 2 and 4 at the time ) and I went to the Baja 1000 2 years ago. I had always wanted to go growing up in Blythe we loved off road racing. I have to say we had no problems and the kids loved it! Although we got lost at one point and I have never seen ghettos like the ones I saw in Encinada. We had a great time its to bad to hear about the shooting. As for cops in Mexico from personal experience at gun point they can be fairly corrupt!Comment
