    Another Turners Outdoors Post

So I got a gift card for my birthday to Turners. So today as me and my wife were in LA seeing family and my wife reminded me about the card. So I check google and closest one was 33mins away from are family member house. So I call them up and ask if they have the anderson lower for $59 bucks in stock, put on hold for 5 mins and later was told yes and I drive down. I wait inline for someone to help me and when it's my turn I tell them I am here to buy the lower. The guy behind the counter tells me that they don't stock them and would have to be order with a $100.00 Down. Also tells me I can't use the gift card to order the lower. I tell the sales person I just called about the lower and I was told maybe I called the wrong Turners. I just walked out.

Not sure what this thread's about but a down payment for more then the product cost seems a bit odd and I'm sure that was a mistake . Just ask to talk with someone in a black shirt . Red shirts are newer employees . No they don't always stock ittems because some stores may sell 100 and another only 10 . That could cause a lot of unneeded shipping from store to store . They just ship them once when and to the store that sold them .

I can't tell you how many times I've bought something at the store and they did not have one on hand . I rarely buy something with out looking at it or handling it . Those stripped lowers PSA , Del-ton , Anderson are all the same . Hell when it comes to those cheap lowers I have the guys show me the serial #'s in the computer and thats how I pick them . You're not taking it home that day so don't sweat it .

The 1911 I just bought was sight unseen . Now that's not to say I had never handled one at the store . I had been looking at the gun for about a year . They had a big Wed only sale and my local store was out of the 1911 . They checked around and had another store send there's .

I don't think I've heard one positive story about Turners.

I know people don't usually go out of their way to share a good experience unless it was over-the-top good but...

I've had many positive experiences at Turner's, and the only problem I can remember off the top of my head was a Marlin 795 that had a canted rear sight when I went to pick it up, so they ordered me another one and gave me an extra magazine for the inconvenience.

Having said that, by the time I'm there I've usually already done my research and know what I want, so it's just a matter of exchanging my money for their product.

I don't go there for legal advice or to ask them what I should buy.

All things being equal I prefer to give my business to "the little guy" LGS, but I have no problem with Turner's.

i recently had a positive experience at Turner's-Kearny Mesa store while doing a PPT, which was the FFL chosen by the seller. we picked a number for service, as did everyone else. every customer in the gun section endured a long wait because the place was packed on a big sale day. no preferential treatment was given to those that were purchasing guns vs those that were not. the counter person treated me very well, as if my business mattered to him.

on the pickup day a different counter person treated me very well and was very personable. he complemented the S&W revolver i had purchased because of it's pre-lock configuration and shared with me his latest find. i was very pleased with the respectful treatment and helpful attitudes sent my way from the staff at that particular Turner's.

That's my local Turners and I like them very much .I have only had one bad experience there and that was with a new guy that did not know me and really had a bad attitude .I just figured he must have come fron Discount gun mart or so-cal guns . I did not say anything to anyone but I never saw him there again . Now I buy at least 3 guns a year there and have already bought three this year . The older guys know me by name and I never pay sticker price unless it's on sale . There is a small secret how to get them to reduce the price . Sorry I will not say what that is in a forum , I would hate for it to dry up because I save hundreds of dollars a year .

So OP, are you going to sell the gift card? Metal God, they remember you that well from only buying 3 guns a year and they still give you a discount? Also it is nice that Turners is improving on doing PPT I still refuse to do them there.

Piles of extra unnecessary paperwork, long waits, never understood wanting to do a PPT at a Turners. They're not pulling that "the DROS system is down" lie any more?

not sure yet. I was thinking I would just buy **** loads of fishing gear for the wife. Maybe it's the two turners I have been but the people working there are dicks.

I have had MANY good experiences with Turner's over the years. Usually at their San Bernardino and Rancho Cucamonga locations. Pretty much all my pistols and a few of my rifles/shotguns have been bought from them.

Done several PPTs as well and was ALWAYS taken in turn when my number was called. Only difficulty was once when a clerk took FOREVER to complete the paperwork and had to keep asking for help. Despite my annoyance at the delay, my friend (not the buyer) had plenty of time to window shop and ended up buying a CZ rifle they had in stock while he waited for me to finish up.

They even once held some ammo they had on sale for me while I drove down there (1.5hr each way). By doing that they ended up making a rifle sale as well since while I waited for them to remember where they hid the ammo I noticed a Keltec SU16CA that someone had just traded in and bought it.

During the frenzy I also bought a PTR91GI from them and was given the military discount despite the fact they could have easily sold it to the next guy for that 5% more.

The Manager at the San Berdoo store even honored my raincheck for .22 ammo, issued right before Newtown, though it took almost a year to finally get the ammo in stock for me.

I am in there pretty much every two weeks after my VA appointment and they recognize me by sight.

OP, whenever I call any business I ALWAYS get the employees name so they can't pull the you called the wrong store crap on me. Personally I would have taken it up with the Store Manager instead of simply walking away and then posting a thread about it as you did.

Waiting for customer service can be fun. The sales yakking can get tedius.

As far as a corporate LGS they are about par. Some transactions have been better than others, none have been horror stories. The lost leader products are an attraction, firearm pricing is standard to slightly higher.

Overall experience has been about a "B". More good deals than naught.
