It sounds like the charge was dismissed under a PC1000 diversion program. That is different than being reduced to a misdemeanor.

Under PC1000, the subject does not even have to acknowledge the arrest even happened unless applying to become a peace officer, a California Lottery employee or running for public office.

If this is the case, it sounds like the court did not notify DOJ about the dismissal. It seems this is pretty common, and one of the noted flaws in the Armed Prohibited Persons program.

Over the years I have had a few customers go through this same thing. Apparently the courts aren't big on tying a bow on these diversion cases once they are finished and most people don't know to follow up with the court to make sure it's all done.

I'm sorry this resulted in a headache for you OP. The good news is after you get this done you should have no issues with future purchases. Congratulations on completing your classes and staying out of trouble. Oh, the joys of youthful mistakes.
