Want to be an AH ? Call on Saturday and ask if anyone else got food poisoning.

Just remember all families have some weird family members with weird ideas, just don't be that weird person.

I would show up and just refuse to take a test. If they don`t want you there tell them it will be the last time you see me and get on with your life.

Yeah...... I wouldn't do that. God forbid one of them gets the coof a month later, they'll blame you for it and you'll never get out from under it.

Magicmountain didn't even ask for a test today. What does that tell you OP.

              Has anyone said F'em, yet?

                After action report

Upon arrival it was apparent the in-law hosts were completely overwhelmed, still scrambling to get sh1t ready (we didn't get there early)... I was pretty much ignored and not prevented from entering, so I wandered around a bit and got my son settled in with his cousin's toys.

About 10 min. later Dork BIL host hands me a probe to shove up my nose - I'm like 'oh you were actually serious' giving him the 'you're koo-koo' look. I look at this thing carefully, doesn't say where it's made - only it comes from some place called Cue Health, San Diego. Dork mf'er stands there watching me as I do it (I'm rubbing it half assed around both nostrils not doing a good job on purpose), then he takes it and goes away to continue scrambling or whatever.

Meanwhile MIL + FIL are busting out drinks (the hosts hardly have any decent booze??), I join them once I have something passable to sip on. So far, lame - but I made sure there was a turkey in the oven. I chatted with a few folks, catching up etc. So my test is done a little bit later, the probe plugs into a little white box with blinking lights, which hooks up to Dork's phone via Bluetooth, and guess what....... I'm negative, no sh1t sherlock! Dork goes on telling me negative means I don't have covid...holy sh1t is this guy serious? I give him the usual smart a.s.s. comment and that's about all I said to him for the night. I bust his wife's balls once after that for good measure (all in good fun!)....I think the near freakout stress they were going thru by hosting Thanksgiving for ~ 16ish people was all I needed.

I go over to their TV and Die Hard is playing, I ask if there's a game on instead, the relatives sitting there say that the hosts don't have standard TV just basic Netflix/Prime/etc. I found the Cowboys/Raiders game streaming but it required a Paramount+ subscription or something so I clicked on it anyway and signed the hosts up, a few other guys appreciated that. Suck my negative resulting balls (and cancel it after your free trial if you remember to).

The food was forgettable, but my wife's pies were good. It turned out to be an alright day because it was good to be with the normal people in the family at least, and all the kids got to go bonkers w/ each other.

                AND....

Here's the kicker: sick old lady was a NO SHOW! Unbelievable....I'll be banking this one for later.

thanks for sharing, I honestly don't think they cared about the sick old lady, it was just an excuse to show you who's in charge.

I feel for you Op. When it comes to these things, I'm so outspoken that everyone else around me knows what to expect. If I had family that wanted to corona test to come over to their house, they just wouldn't even bother telling me.
Everyone that knows me personally knows that I'm a Christian and a patriot. I wear that on my sleeve. So that avoids the bs.

^ if you look at it that way, I guess. I think of the long game. They can keep believing that their little white blinky box will keep them safe in the bubble they live in. They'll either wake up one day or not, if they do I'm going to be that guy, the guy who says welcome to the party pal. If not, no great loss, they'll just be more foolish people to avoid. Sad for them ultimately.

Like everything about covid mandates, I doubt the motivation has anything to do with keeping anybody safe. In this case it's just bullying and self importance.

Last Christmas, the neighbor family celebrated by opening their gifts in the back yard, in a large well spaced circle, with masks on. Just the immediate family, mind you.... two adults and three children.

People are stupid. That's just the way it is.

The fact the old lady wasn't there is telling.
They only wanted you to do what they say.. Not for COVID.
Because they hate you're conservative views?

They don't know my views 100% and I've never fully shared them in their company. I've witnessed them argue with other relatives who had differing opinions (mostly political) on the internet and honestly I have better things to do. If it comes up in conversation (rarely) then they get a little taste here and there, but I like to keep things grey around them and similar folk, and test for reactions...it helps when making a decision to have either a conversation or endure un-hinged screeching from an idealogue. People are frickin' touchy mo-fos lately.

I think they could guess what my views are solely based on what I'm basically about mixed with whatever info my wife might have relayed over the years. They pretty much leave me alone, except this year with the testing horsesh1t.
