Damn, well I wouldn't mind paying them a little bit extra for their troubles. I realize it's a PITA to deal with this kind of crap, especially in CA. How do you suppose would be the best way to approach them about it? I don't want to come off as some weirdo.

man, I wish. I've been trying to do an SxS AOW for years, can't find an SxS host gun to legally build on.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

anybody calling about an AOW is going to come off as a weirdo you have to be a weirdo to want something like that.

OC has been doing AOWs for years. Just call him and ask him, he will either say yes or no. There are a few others in the state but if you live in SoCal, it would be quite a PITA to have to do the transaction in Tracy or somewhere in the Central State area.

What makes it so? Is it because of the second barrel? What if we pulled the firing pin or disabled the second trigger if it has one? There has to be a way.

You would have to find a SxS action that has NEVER been a shotgun otherwise, it would be a SBS instead of an AOW.

Ah, of course, duh... now I can definitely see why it's such a challenge :P

Are there any small shotgun manufacturers in California that make cheaper side by sides?

I'm not aware of any production manufacturers in the United States that make SxS shotguns at all, they're all imports. There are many of us that have been looking at SHOT for years for a domestic maker, or an importer that could bring in SxS receivers, no dice.

Perhaps you could find a true gunmaker that could build you a one-off SxS host, but then you'd have to explain why you wanted it PG-only, and he'd probably run for the hills. If it were easy, there're already be someone selling new SxS AOWs.

I know it's not SxS, but what about using the Chiappa Firearm Triple-Threat Title 1 Other as a host for making a Title 2 AOW?

Now that's really something... Chiappa definitely has some strange guns but I kind of like them.

I saw that that was announced around SHOT, but I missed it when I was there. I don't think they are selling/importing it as a PG-only gun, but are offering it with a 2-piece stock that the back half can be removed to make it a cruiser. if so, it wouldn't be an acceptable PG-only host.

So I'm just thinking on the keyboard here. Stoeger SxS s are popular, and inexpensive, so making a virgin receiver for those might be a place to start.
Now, shotguns are imported under 922 (r) so I'd have to figure out how to comply, correct?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.
