I use a rod but it's old and beginning to bend a bit, I can see the day coming when it will be useless. I am considering a bore snake myself.

Boresnake for both 12 and 20.

      1 in my cleaning kit
      1 in my range bag
      1 in my gun case

      They come in handy!

I used the snake and it works really well. Always very nice and shiny bore when done.

The snake is a good tool when out shooting.... it gets the bulk of the junk out....

When you run patches through after using the snake, the patches are dirty and you still need to clean the gun thoroughly after using the snake a few times....
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I use a snake for rifles, handguns and shotguns....up to a point. THe snake is a quick and dirty cleaning, not quite a substitute for a cleaning rod and patches. It does get the worst of the gunk and without tearing down the weapon.

Tico tool - - If you haven't tried one, you are missing out. Without question, the fastest and easiest way to clean a shotgun barrel. Just about all of the high volume skeet and trap shooters that I know use one.

I use both, the bore snake is light and compact, easy to pack and bring it along to the range. One nice feature of the range I shoot most is that they provide a well stocked cleaning station. After shooting, I'll spray down the bore with Ballistol or WD40, run a few paper towel through it (provided by the range cleaning station) and then pull the bore snake through it a couple of times.

To be honest, this will get your bore clean enough to put the shotgun away, but I have a habit of keeping my guns as clean as possible after each shoot.

When I get home, I do a more detailed cleaning using Frog Lube and rod+patches. I've also noticed that the bore snake won't remove all plastic and carbon fouling on the choke, for this I use Frog Lube and scrub the choke with a brass brush (its actually the bore brush for my 9mm pistol, handy for scrubbing the choke).

I use the snake 80% of the time... Run it thru twice,, and the third time spray some rem oil on the end loop... Oils on the third pass thru... A snake dosent really clean your chamber well though... Use the rod and brush with a patch on the brush... Guns scrubber on first patch then oil on next 2 or 3 patches... Ymmv... Cheers..

Snake in the field & at the range.

Rod at home. I really like the Tico Tool. Not sure why I just do.

I keep a snake in the range bag, use it after a couple rounds, and/or when done shooting.

I use bore snakes for all my guns followed with patches.

Wow, you guys sure clean your guns a lot. I run a bore snake thru my 525 once or twice a year, and I shoot a pretty fair amount.
