Go with the M3. I own all of the tactical line-up, and it is the smoothest shooting and very modular.

That is such a weird shotgun, on Benelli's web site, they call it a "semi-auto pump" shotgun. Can you switch between semi-auto and pump freely or do you have to empty the magazine?

          I'm not into the M3
          I don't believe in compromises

either pump OR semi, not both

The M3 has its merits and failures, but by no means is it designed with compromise. Note that this gun is still in production while the SL-121, M1, and Super Black Eagle have all become extinct.

I would go for the M2 before the Supernova.

You can freely switch between function, the switch only connects the forend to either the barrel or action bars. When the action switch is locked onto the barrel, it can't move therefore rendering Semi-auto.

                *edit

my application is HD and tactical fantasies
Well you're comparing a pump to a semi auto. They're both good guns. Think you need to figure which format you want/prefer. Personally, I'd go with the M2 here.

And as others have said, the M4 is a fantastic gun too. M4 is Gas driven vs Inertia for the M2. If you're looking for a pure tactical HD gun, my vote is for the M4. But if you want a gun that can also serve duty with clays or in the field, then I'd go the M2, as it has longer barrel options. The M4 only has the 18.5in barrel for it.

And I agree the M3 is a weird gun. LOL.

Here are some other opinions/in site

As a newbie looking into a semi-auto what are som of the pros and cons of the different options in semi-autos. There may already be a thread on this but I could not find it. From what I've read so far Gas seems to be the way to go. That is what the most highly praised semis seem to be (Browning...

Yes I know I was trying to keep it on simple for you, I love gas smooth and quite Benellis feel clunky and sound very mechanical and med recoil

Inertia in benelli very fast. Don't feel slide and whoosh of 1187. Just snap.

I thought 1187 felt clunky. Because of long recoil cycle.

Randy Wakeman has a few articles on his web site, start with this one:

Don't let it distract you too much though. Fit, balance, weight and trigger etc. are more important items of consideration.
