You can somewhat feel this in your SuperSport if you load a 3 inch 00 buckshot with 15 pellets (eg. Winchester SuperX) and shoot that. I tried it once, I didn't have my shooting vest back then and was new to shotguns, gave me a bruise on my shoulder after 3 shells.

I did it in an indoor range (this was before I discovered the joy of outdoor shooting and clays...), the blast was pretty darn impressive too, judging all the looks I was getting from the other pistol shooters.

That switch is not all that easy to manipulate. Plus you have to manipulate the switch in and out of pump mode while making sure the rack is fully extended and locked forward to go back into semi-auto. Not the easiest manual of arms. Also because of the semi/pump mechanism, its also quite heavy.

          not familiar with benellis
The M2 is an inertia driven shotgun. That is, the recoil from the round being fired is what cycles the action.

The Benelli M4 is a gas driven shotgun. That is, gas from the round being fired is cycled through two pistons to cycle the action:

Gas systems are usually a little softer shooting. Also note that added weight on an inertia system could hamper it's ability to cycle. Like if you have a bunch of things mounted on the M2 (lights, etc), it MIGHT not cycle well.

The M3 has its merits and failures, but by no means is it designed with compromise. Note that this gun is still in production while the SL-121, M1, and Super Black Eagle have all become extinct.
            I beg to differ.

Perhaps the SL-121which seemed to be a bit of a hybrid of the Black Eagle and Montefeltro is no longer in production...but to say that the M1 and Super Black Eagle have become extinct is inaccurate.

The MI platform has been advanced to the M2 and the SBE platform has been advanced to the SBE2. The inertia driven system still remains as the heart of every semi-auto Benelli except the M4 which is gas driven.

I agree they have advanced into the newer styling, but you can't use several components of an M2 on a M1 (more specifically the barrel). On my new M3 and H&K M3 the components interchange. Benelli "literally" ceased production on the Super Black Eagle, Black eagle, M1, and SL-121 is what I was referring. And the SL-121 is the grandfather that started it all for Benelli.

FYI, I can interchange my H&K/Benelli SBE barrel and bolt with an SBEII barrel & bolt and vice versa.
