    Improving at Trap

I've been shooting about 3 months.

I'm consistently averaging 23s. Only one 25 so far.

So what do I do next to get better?

    Find a coach?
    Practice w full choke?
Get a custom fitted high end over under?
    Relax and just keep practicing?
    Practice with lighter loads?

Seems like most misses are when I take my eye off bird and start thinking too much about shots.

Will higher scores just come w more practice, or should I be doing something different?

I keep thinking if I drop 10k for a high end gun I'll shoot better. But when I'm shooting well it seems like I can't miss. So I'm reluctant to trade up. I think I'm gonna just practice win full choke for while. And then see how I do w modified.

I don't even know where to get a custom fitted over and under.

Great progress in three months. I would make sure of your gun fit. The other is to sharpen mental focus. I like Lanny Basham's work on the mental aspects.

A well qualified instructor may be quite helpful.

It's really hard down here in San Diego to find someone who knows what they are doing. Or can even check gun fit!

Gonna start w lanny basham books. Looks like good place to start.

If that doesn't work I'll need to take my wife to Italy and take side trip to perazzi factory for custom fitted gun!

                      answer

Find a coach that is good at teaching the mental part of the game

                      Food for thought

Do you mount your shotgun the same way each and every time? Do you place your cheek on the comb in the same spot and with the same presure each and every time?

Yes and no. Mount same but not exact same cheek pressure.

Sounds like you know what the problem is... maybe a book on athletic performance improvement? An expensive gun won't help if you're talking yourself out of a good shot by overthinking...

(also, 23's is very good for only a few months worth of practice...)

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Thank you. I know. But I'm still hoping to make the Olympics in Rio.

Tagged because I am interested but not averaging as high as you ( I'm usually on the 20-23).

I don't think a new gun would make that much difference to you as you are already up there.

Funny thing, my best round (24) was shooting a 20ga H&R Pardner single shot that I picked from Big 5 for $99. There were some guys shooting with really
Expensive guns right next to me and they couldn't believe it.
