I disagree with the 870 being flawless. It rusts like hell. I'd take an old wingmaster model over a new 870 express any day.

A parkerized Express needs to be oiled just like a blued Wingmaster.

Keep it oiled, and it won't rust.

If the potential for rust is the only thing that keeps the 870 from being flawless, we'll take it.

guess I got a fluke... I've had one since Feb 2011 - approx 500 rounds, no problems... however, it doesn't like any of the 3.5" shells I've fed it, other than that it's been good.

It's easy to short stroke - so you have to get used to that, once accustom to it's function it's GTG... even my girlfriend has no problem with it.

Not sure what "doesn't like" means... And short strokes are caused by the shooter, not the gun. Were you referring to a short stroke as a fluke?

Wonder if they will exchange it for a 870 if i complain enough.

didn't realize my post was so hard to understand, sorry...

"doesn't like"... FTF and FTE... just plain finicky. No biggie for me, I don't shoot 3.5" anyway (and most shotguns won't chamber 3.5, so I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue for most people).

Clearly short stroking is shooter... that's why I said "this gun is easy to short stroke" (the "easy to" part means shooter)... meaning if you halfass cycle a round, it will FTF and possibly jam... cycling a round takes a bit longer stroke and with purpose than some other shotguns I've used an have (it's easy to short stroke until you get used to it).

"Got a fluke" as in it works, unlike others reporting here; mine functions fine as long as you don't baby it.

I'm baffled that I needed to decipher everything - but I hope that helped your confusion.

You certainly could have cleared your "fluke" comment up by rephrasing... Allow me to demonstrate:

"As a shooter who's clearly inexperienced with the functioning of an 870, it's quite easy for me to short stroke the gun, thus leaving me frustrated and confused. With some time and practice, I'll absolutely overcome this novice shortcoming. Thank you for your patience."

Flows a little better doesn't it? And we've removed any misplaced blame on the gun...

A fire guy at my work bought one and doesn't stop talking about how amazing of a shot gun it is. I feel unless your hunting in constant rain or super hard conditions the features are useless IMO.

                        I prefer a standard 870. FWIW.

Mine is a POS! I bought it because it looked cool and felt good in my hands. I have always shot 870's. This thing locks up, drops shells out the bottom, and double feeds.

good grief... are we serious with this nonsense???... My post was so abundantly clear a completely green to firearms person could understand it...

I will be at Burro Canyon (private range) on 11/11 (Veterans' Day) - wasn't planning on taking the 887 (I don't fiddle with it much these days - but it's loaded and within reach for home defense, so I guess this would be a good opportunity to send some slugs to keep her loose)... and would be happy to give you as many rounds as necessary to make an informed decision.

Send a PM and we can work it out...
