why bother with a detachable magazine designed shotgun that needs a maglock and a conversion?

Yeah, it does cripple the concept to a point but it is still a extremely fun firearm. It also is one of the few shotguns that a garage tinkerer can tool on. The conversion itself is fun and there are a ton of parts out there for it. The recoil is pretty soft for a shotgun but the main reason, CA doesn't want you to have one because it uses a mag!

Same here... I actually have 2 Hatsans... loved them that much.. (got a really really good deal on the second one).

I also have a saiga 12... its definitely fun and it might be your last chance to get one... plus there supposed to come out with double stack mags pretty soon within the next couple of months.. 20 rounds of 12 guage would be pretty fun (out of state of course)..

Because its fun and something different... plus in a real SHTF scenario that BB could be removed within minutes... BB laws are ridiculous..

Saiga 12 all the way.

A tube fed shotgun IS NOT ON THE SAME LEAGUE as a mag fed shotgun. Plain and simple.

I can run birdshot no problem.
The maglock I make works awesome too, only 2 screws hold it on as well.

It is one of my all time favorite guns to take to the range. A crowd pleaser.

That said, Ive done some work to mine to make it shoot birdshot. Not hard though if you have some mechanical competence.

For HD, Benelli all the way. Even without the BB, Saiga is a range toy at best, seen countless FTE's and FTF's with both bird and buck.

All semi-autos will have FTE issues at one point in time during the break-in process even Benellis. FTFs on a Saiga could also be attributed to operator error not inserting and seating the mag properly.

For HD, many will say that any semi-auto is a range toy. My HD is a pump action Mossberg.

I have 2000+ rounds through my baby(slugs,oo, crap ammo too) never had a problem . Hunt hogs all the time 30-80 yards blow them away ,Benelli who?

Had a S12. Didn't care for it too much due to the mag lock. Fun gun but what a pita to load. I sold it bought a stoeger m3000. Works great and I can constantly top it off, no mags to lose, replace or break. If you want a tactical attention grabber the S12 is your gun. The factory sportster stock configuration is probably the mos uncomfortable hand position I ever used
IMO the S 12 is a ok gun but the mag lock kills it.
Like any gun its gonna have its fans. I have a old reliable mossberg 500 I use for pretty much everything

They ARE impractical, especially in CA where they're even more disadvantaged with a bullet button. I know what I've personally experienced and seen with the S12. Just 2 weeks ago some poor saps who spent almost half the time clearing their chamber with all the FTE's they were getting from their "almighty" S12...
