Benelli Supernova vs Remington 870 vs Benelli Nova

Sorry to bring up this question, but can someone please weigh out the pros and cons of a the above mentioned shotguns. I plan to utilize the shotgun for hunting, sporting, 3 gun etc etc. One thing I do not plan on using this shotgun for is HD. If I can get a Mossberg 500 with a 28" barrel and a 18.5" barrel for 339.99 should I just jump on it?

EDIT: I believe I have narrowed it down to the benelli nova. I really liked the way it shouldered and felt. Feels like a quality shotgun and have heard great things about benellis. I was hoping before I decide to purchase, if someone can give me their testament on this shotgun if they have used it or own it. I would also be grateful if owners of both the rem 870 and Benelli nova can give me some comparisons and contrasts of the two shotguns. Thanks in advance.

EDIT #2: I went in to look at the Benelli Supernova yesterday. I was somewhat impressed, but also deterred by the $500 price tag. I was told by the guy behind the counter that if he were looking for a shotgun for sporting, at $500 he would rather take the step up to semi-automatics. I also took another look at the 870 express super mag that can accept 3-1/2 in shells. I liked it due to the fact I could add some nice wood furniture to it, but I cannot keep myself from comparing it to the wingmaster, which is much greater quality in my eyes. I also took another look at the Benelli Nova. This is my frontrunner, as it is $100 cheaper than the supernova, and has a better rep than the RECENT 870s. Let me add to the fact, that I am not the one to do much to my guns, although my last few purchases have been driven by that factor (Ruger 10/22, Remington 700, AR-15). I'm at the point where I don't care which one, but I have a clear favorite and am heavily leaning towards Benelli. Now I just need to decide between the Nova and SuperNova. I will add a poll to help with my decision. Thanks

if its from big 5 theres no rush thats just a bi monthly special . only big thing that turns me away from the 870 is that the extractors need to be serviced by a smith .other than than if you clean both of them up theyll go bang regardless.

I have the Mossbert from Big 5 and it suits me just fine. It's a good gun.

The only advatange I can say the mossberg has over the 870 is that you can remove and or replace a broken extracter with a screwdriver.

The 870's extracter is rivited in...

I own the 870 and I think it breaks down easier...
        ???????????

You can change the extractor on an 870 with just a screwdriver too.

don't they have the Mossberg 500 that comes with 2 barrels I cant remember but I think its a 18 and a 24 barrels is the best deal imo over the 2

I personally think it depends on configuration you want to use. The Mossberg 500 has their safety ontop of the receiver, so if you are wanting to use a pistol grip style shotgun, a Remington or the Mossberg Maverick 88 is a better choice due to their safety being in the trigger guard.

The mossberg line of shotguns have duel extractors and it makes cycling rounds a lot easier. You don't have to chuck the pump with authority to eject a round, and even a slow pull to the rear, it pops out the shells with its design.

The Remingtons often require a little more stoking power and if you try to chuck the pump slowly, it'll often lead to a shell hanging on the receiver (typically you wouldn't pump a shotgun in this fashion). At the same time, many 870 owners have opened up their ejection ports to increase the reliability of cycle.

I have shot skeet and trap with a Remington 870 Express and a Mossberg Maverick 88 and didn't have any issues.

                Not this again

I chose an 870 but would be happy with either one.

That's the one on sale. That's why I'm seriously considering it because I want it for hunting. Otherwise I would just straight up purchase the Remington 870. What about aftermarket parts for each gun? Not thinking of doing much to it besides having wood stock and forend

Yeah sorry. I really am indecisive and want to make the correct choice. I have had the 870 in mind for a while, but I don't think there really is that big of a difference between the two

^^^^^^this if interested in variety of targets/hunting. The 2 barrel set has fixed chokes. Pretty limiting in today's world of shotgunning.

The Mossberg is lighter with alloy receiver.

^^ This. Plus, I prefer the feel and action of the 870. I find that I shoot it much better than a 500.

+1. I had a 500A with a mod barrel. I hated the fact that it was a fixed coke.

So then the 870 has interchangeable chokes? Also, if I were to get the 870 then I could always add a shorter barrel to the collection right? Which has the larger aftermarket?
