    Remington 870 Express Rust?

    Hey guys,

I am a proud new owner of a Remington 870 Express Synthetic

I have read a lot about 870's and their rust. I was just wondering what do you guys personally do/use to prevent rust and what method seems to yield the best results (minus recoating the firearm). Also, where you guys like to keep oiled.

Currently I just use ballistol. I have SlideGlide and Tetra, but it is to my knowledge that you shouldn't use any grease anywhere on the 870 really (correct me if I'm wrong).

    Thanks!!

    Yes 870s rust pretty easy.

I use Eezox being some of the strongest best testimonial rust preventative I found. But it is pretty toxic definitely an out door cleaner.

I found if I heavy coat it and let it soak in for a few days before touching it again after about 5 heavy coats and sittings it keeps the rust off pretty good. I also coat after every use before putting it back in the safe just for that added protection. But one wipe and it pretty much eliminates the rust sport and keeps it away decently.

Look into a container of it and heck out their testimonials on their site. Pretty good stuff

      Eezox.

Yes, it does smell when applying, yet it really works.

Is it really that much better than something like ballistol?

and if I use it do I use it just on the exterior? or will it be sufficient to clean and to oil up my 870 where I want need to use anything else?

          For rust protection yes.

As for lubing properties but I dot use it. I believe it says it can be used for that but I just stay with my rem oil which I use one all my rifles, hand guns and who guns for moving parts.

I've tried Kroil oil for a while but it didn't seem like it stayed on the parts as long as the rem oil does on my guns.

              Hey! Who you calling garbage!

Yea the wing aster finish is a lot better and more durable finish. Have a similar on my 930 and rust on it is almost non existent.

I have been using Eezox as a one-stop CLP solution on all my 870 Express' for years. After I shot my 870 Express; I took it down, sprayed Eezox on all the parts, wiped them clean, and reassembled it. That's all and no complaints (except for the smell.)

Does using Eezox strip the finish on the barrel and receiver? I have slight pitting but don't want to have to refinish the rifle. Not worth the money IMO.

I don't own an express, but all of my blued and parked finishes have grease wiped onto them periodically. I've never had a problem.

My son has a Remington 1100 which will rust at the bat of an eye.
We did a krylon rattle can camo job on it and that was the end of the rust problem.
Gun looks good and when the paint does eventually start to peel we always have more Krylon.
It has been about 3 years now since we painted it and it still looks great.

Not that I could tell from mine... My 870 Express' are no safe queens and I treat them pretty rough, yet Eezox didn't affect the finish on the barrel/receiver.

Hmm thanks for all the info guys. I just wonder if it is necessary for me to buy that or if Ballistol would do the same. Is the consistency of Eezox more like grease?

I have an 870 Express Super Magnum I bought a while ago. The POS rusted in front of my eyes while hunting over rice in the valley. I picked it up, cleaned it, lightly greased and oiled it like I had for years with other guns and then went hunting in the rain for ducks. I looked at it after a few hours in the blind and the thing was starting to get light rust on the barrel at the ribbing. It was made for duck hunting, I was mad to say the least. I then was told about the cheap models that were called "Express" by a guy who knew what he was talking about. After complaining, Remington offered for me to send it in and they replaced the barrel. I bought an SX2 and then an SX3 for ducks after that whole deal and now that 870 is my back-up. The gun shoots well, it just isn't good for duck hunting unless you're willing to deal with the rust issues.
